Celludroid is said to be South Africa’s only film festival dedicated strictly to Science-Fiction, Animation and Fantasy. The indie festival is presented by Cape Town based Flamedrop Productions, the same group behind the successful HorrorFest and Sound on Screen Music Film Festival.

This year’s Johannesburg selection includes classic films from the past (like Akira and Plan 9 From Outer Space), to more recent films like Lunopolis, and The Seekers Guide To Harry Potter.

The young festival takes place from Friday, January 25, to Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at The Bioscope in Johannesburg. I didn't identify any *black films* in its lineup, but I'm highlighting the festival itself since it's still quite young, and given its location, is one to watch to see how it evolves.

Visit www.thebioscope.co.za for the full festival program and more information about the venue and other events.
