XLrator Media has set a September 26, 2014 theatrical release date for John Ridley's Jimi Hendrix film, now titled, "Jimi: All Is By My Side," which made its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall.

Andre Benjamin plays Hendrix in the drama, and is joined by Hayley Atwell, Imogen Poots, Andrew Buckley, in a film that covers a year in Hendrix’s life, from 1966-67, presenting an intimate portrait of the sensitive, young musician on the verge of becoming a rock legend, cutting his teeth as an unknown backup guitarist playing New York’s Cheetah Club, to making his mark on London’s music scene, up until his Monterey Pop triumph.

It's one of several high-profile films based on the life of a real-life personality that was burdened with controversy during its production - specifically, this Hendrix project sadly didn't have the approval of Jimi Hendrix's estate to use any of the musician's original songs, with reps for the estate accusing the filmmakers of moving forward with the project without their official consent. To assist, the producers set the film in "Hendrix's pre-fame era," as described above, when Hendrix covered other musicians' songs.

But it's still a much anticipated film, with plenty of support for Benjamin as Hendrix, as fans wait to see his transformation on the big screen. And now we have an official date for you to mark on your calenders.

To further entice you, XLrator has released a first trailer for the film, giving you a lot more footage to take in than the previous short clips that surfaced over the last 6 months.

Zeba reviewed the film for S&A after she saw it at TIFF last fall. Read her reactions here.

" ROXANNE... you don't have to put on the red light, those days are over... you don't have to sell your body to the town... ROXANNE"

The two old guys give their opinion on Zeba's review and the movie "All Is By My Side".

W: That's the lick, 48 Hours..!. Eddie Murphy..!. now that was a good movie.
S: Yep, Eddie Murphy at his best, but as with Roxanne's plight, those days are over.
W: UT OH, are you going there?

S: Well, a black woman, Zeba, in her review said it has much to be desired. In other words, quiet be kept, it stunk like day old chittlins sitting in the hot sun.
W: That's it, that's all you have to say.
S: Yep, because I'm tired-tired-tired of telling black folks to stop willingly taking part in the oldest profession known to man - pandering & pi*ping black folks.

W: I see your point. They should be more like Reggie Rock.
S: HELLO! Now you're talkin' the good stuff. That man did the damn thang with "Gun Hill". And he fertilized S&A's community too.
    W: Fertilized?
S: he stopped by to show his appreciation. In other words, he spread the good stuff (fertilizer) to let his fan base know he welcomes their support.
    W: That's a smart man.
S: Talented too. And see, white folks don't do that. They just use us up and cast us away like dirty dishrags.
W: Hmmm.... but what do you expect from Ave Duvaney's "Selma".
S: The jury is still out but I'm thinking a ham-fisted Hollywood affair that ingratiates itself to white folks.
    W: That strong.
S: Well, we shall see. But in the interim, HIP HIP HOORAY for Reggie "Gun Hill" Rock!

I can't see or hear anything but Andre 3000 in this trailer. Sorry, this just does not look like a good film or performance.
