On the heels of his supporting role in the TWC hit, Silver Linings Playbook, Chris Tucker has signed up to star in the comedy Second Honeymoon.

To be directed by Phil Joanou (Gridiron Gang), the film's synopsis, courtesy of The Wrap, reads:

Story follows a married couple who return to Antigua on their second honeymoon in an effort to spice things up. However, the legacy they left ten years ago comes back to haunt both of them, and before they know it, the trip is less about trying to reconnect with their younger, wilder selves and more about trying to get off the island alive.

Chris will star as one-half of the couple - his first leading role since sharing the screen with Jackie Chan in the Rush Hour series.

Relativity Media will finance, produce and distribute the film, which Chris Tucker will executive produce.

As for what's on Tucker's upcoming slate, there've been rumors of a Rush Hour 4 movie, as well as another buddy-action-comedy with Jackie Chan, tentatively titled Skip Tracer.

Tucker is also set to host the 2013 BET Awards, which takes place on June 30.

Any guesses on what actress (assuming the other half of the couple is a woman) will play Tucker's wife in Second Honeymoon?

    What about Kim Wayans?

  • ALM | June 13, 2013 3:57 PM

Kim would be great. She has a good 10 years of age on Chris, but she looks younger than she is.

It has to be someone who can handle the intensity of Chris's rapid-fire humor. I say Regina Hall.

Tisha and Tichina would be great for this too. I'd say Tisha ahead of Tichina because she handled comedic scenes with two at the top of their game--Martin Lawrence and Damon Wayans. She can match anything Chris Tucker could think up. Any seasoned actress who knows how to roll with the punches and not freeze up like a deer in headlights or disappear and be overshadowed.

She was my first thought. It would be nice to see a truly comedically gifted actress cast, not just eye candy. I'm sure they'll go younger, but Regina, Tisha, & Tichina are all freaking hilarious.

That next generation of comedic actresses hasn't really gotten a chance to emerge. When the terribly unfunny Kali Hawk is the only young name that immediately comes to mind, it's a problem.

I knew that I would probably forget someone great in my list. Regina Hall would be great also.

@Jihudi It did cross my mind at first that perhaps they would cast a non Black or a white actress as the love interest but I don't think they would go that route post Cheerios-gate. But who knows anything can happen.

I guess we're all assuming the love interest to be Black, right?

  • Juwan Dickerson | June 12, 2013 6:12 PMReply

It would be nice for them to cast an unknown Black actress but Keri Washington is the it girl at the moment.

    Congrats Chris!

This sounds more like a drama or a dramedy as opposed to a comedy. Dramedy can be tricky, but I wish him the best.

As for his love interest, how about Bresha Webb, Nikki Micheaux, Gabrielle Union, Kali Hawk, Nadine Ellis, or Rutina Wesley, YaYa Decosta Alafia, Erica Hubbard or Nicole Beharie. I'm available to play his wife also. :)

I think Chris + Bresha would be a gut bursting funny combination as long as they don't make Bresha play a hood stereotype.
