On the heels of the immense success of Kevin Hart's Laugh At My Pain, Codeblack Entertainment (the company that distributed that concert film) has formed a multiyear partnership exclusively with AMC Theaters, to release CodeBlack films at select AMC locations nationwide.
And the first film to be released under this new pact will be the T.D Jakes-produced, Neema Barnette-directed thriller Woman Thou Art Loosed!: On The 7th Day (starring Blair Underwood, Sharon Leal, Nicole Beharie, Pam Grier and others), which will be released on April 13.
On the surface, this reads similar to what AFFRM currently does with its films - released in AMC theaters via the AMC Independent initiative; although I'm not privvy to details of any exclusive multiyear partnership agreement between the 2 organizations (AFFRM/AMC); so the difference in this deal with CodeBlack could lie there.
Anywho... congrats to the CodeBlack team; and I suppose the even bigger story here is that On the 7th Day will open on April 13th in AMC theaters - initially anyway - around the country; so we should see a trailer for it very soon, I'd imagine.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the film will make its world premiere at the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) next month, as the festival's closing night film. Unfortunately, I won't be there for closing night festivities, so I'll miss it. The festival runs from February 9th through the 20th; I just can't stay there (in LA) for that entire period; I'll likely be there for the first half of the festival before returning to NYC.
