Narrated by Joan Rivers, the film premieres TONIGHT, Thursday, March 21 at 8/7c, on Showtime.

The film sheds light on the legacy of the female comedian and the dedication, courage and passion required to be successful in the male-dominated stand-up comedy business.

Nearly 30 of the industry's top funny women participated in the project, sharing personal perspectives and experiences including familiar names like Whoopi GoldbergKym Whitley, Kim Wayans, Aisha Tyler, Sheryl Underwood, and many others of all skin colors.

Why We Laugh: Funny Women follows in the path of the critically acclaimed 2009 Sundance Film Festival documentary, Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy, which was co-written and produced by Codeblack Films' Quincy Newell. Newell produced Funny Women along with Sheila Ducksworth, while Jeff Clanagan and Joan Rivers serve as Executive Producers.

This is good that Code Black recognized some of the funniest Black female comics, especially since Eddie Murphy acts as though they don't exist.

I was just thinking about this today. It's like I had a vision that they were going to produce a documentary showcasing black women in comedy. I loved ''Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy'' that came out nine years ago. I'am going to enjoy this film that showcases the women in comedy after all these years. I'm tuning in tonight at 7pm going to dvr it while i'm watching the First 48.

Perhaps soon on Netflix? That's where I saw Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy. It may take awhile though, for this edition to land on Netflix.
