I'm not familiar with Mary “HoneyB” Morrison or her works - specifically the Soulmates Dissipate series mentioned here. Anyone read any of them? If so, clue the rest of us in on what to expect is contained within the pages; or should I take a wild guess? :)

I'm not familiar with Mary “HoneyB” Morrison or her works - specifically the Soulmates Dissipate series mentioned here. Anyone read any of them? If so, clue the rest of us in on what to expect is contained within the pages; or should I take a wild guess? :)

Anyway, it looks like Jeff Clanagan and his CodeBlack Entertainment see some value in her novels, and have struck a multi-film development deal with the New York Times bestselling author to produce 7 films based on her Soulmates Dissipate series of books.

The deal also includes producer/director Leslie Small, who, I'm guessing, will helm some, or all of the 7 pictures. Small's resume includes directing several comedy concert series, plus 2004's Hair Show which starred Mo'Nique.

The deal was apparently announced at the just-ended 15th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF). Oddly enough, I was there for the duration of the festival, but I don't recall anyone talking about what appears to be a significant deal; and I did talk to a lot of people about a lot of things.

Reminds me of the deal Tracey Edmonds' company recently announced to produce films based on E. Lynn Harris’ literary oeuvre, with Ted Witcher adapting the 1st.

Read the details below:

Miami, FL July 07, 2011 -- At the 15th Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF), director/writer/producer Leslie Small and producer/CEO of Codeblack Entertainment, Jeff Clanagan will premiere Kevin Hart’s new comedy film, Laugh At My Pain, on Friday, July 8th at 6:30pm at Colony Theatre in South Beach. Small, noted director and Clanagan, producer of comedy concert specials from Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Mike Epps, and others, are back with a film featuring the hottest comic on the scene today. Kevin Hart has appeared in over forty films, and comes off of his hosting of the 2011 BET Awards.

Leslie Small (producer and director) along with Jeff Clanagan (producer) will be at the ABFF with New York Times bestselling author Mary “HoneyB” Morrison to announce their seven-picture deal based on Morrison’s Soulmates Dissipate series.

New York Times bestselling author Mary “HoneyB” Morrison, with millions of fans, has established herself in the publishing world with novels that bring the soulful, sexy, and totally uncensored voice of black women to readers everywhere. With the announcement of this feature film deal, she will blaze a sizzling new trail by bringing to film stories of the African American experience that have made her one of the most poignant and popular authors writing today.

Mary “HoneyB” Morrison has published sixteen novels, including her newest release, The Eternal Engagement, to be released on July 26, 2011 by Dafina Books, an imprint of Kensington Publishing Corp. Writing under the pen name HoneyB, Morrison released Single Husbands and Married on Mondays with Grand Central Publishing. In her novels, Mary addresses relationships, sexuality, and social issues in entertaining and thought-provoking ways.
