This news reminded me that I still need to check out his most recent work in the apocalyptic thriller, The Day, which was released in theaters over the summer.
Cory Hardrict is a name that doesn't get mentioned often, when conversations are had about upcoming or even existing young black male actors. I'd readily admit that I haven't been watching his career as closely as I probably should; although I plan to invest time watching some of his most recent performances to catch up, ahead of roles in 2 upcoming features that are almost complete (Warm Bodies and Lovelace), as well as this one, just announced yesterday...
Hardrict has joined Scott Eastwood and Malcolm McDowell in an indie comedy titled Boulevard H, with Jae Thomas directing from his own script (his feature film debut).
Fernando Escudero is producing, with Roland Zagonvi exec producing a film that tells the story of...
... a group of wannabe actors who collectively follow an eccentric and volatile acting coach. The students are held back by autism, old age, dwarfism, paralysis, egotism, and delusions of grandeur.
Did I mention it's a comedy?
No word on what roles exactly each actor plays here, but principal photography is underway in New Orleans, and will later move to LA.
In The Day, which is now out on home video (DVD, Blu-ray, digital download, VOD), Hardrict co-starred alongside Shawn Ashmore, Ashley Bell, Michael Eklund, Dominic Monaghan, and Shannyn Sossamon in the sci-fi thriller from director Douglas Aarniokoski - a film that was actually shot in 2010, and was finally released Stateside, in theaters, in August this year.
What's it about? Here's its synopsis:
A group of five survivors, armed with shotguns, axes and machetes, wander the back roads of a ravaged landscape looking for refuge in The Day, a terrifying look into a post-apocalyptic future. As war ravages humanity, destroying civilization and most of life on earth, the survivors realize they must do whatever it takes to stay alive. Lost, starving, and exhausted, they seek shelter in a seemingly safe abandoned farmhouse. However, while searching for food and resources, they unwittingly set off a trap signaling to their ruthless predators lying in wait to begin their deadly attack. With food and ammunition dwindling, the group must make a desperate final stand--over a 24 hour period--battling for their ultimate survival.
Of course, Hardrict is one of the 5 survivors.
Anyone see it?
I'll check it out this week.
