Runner Runner stars Timberlake "as a Princeton student who is cheated out of his tuition money playing online poker. He flies to Costa Rica hoping to reclaim his losses from the site's billionaire owner (Affleck), and ends up becoming the corrupt CEO's right-hand man."
If confirmed, Mackie will play an FBI detective who has been trying to hunt down Affleck's character for years and who targets Timberlake as the key to the investigation.
The thriller, which co-stars Oliver Cooper (Project X) as "an Ivy League computer nerd who works for Affleck's site," will be produced by Appian Way's Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Double Feature's Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher and Stone Village Pictures' Scott Steindorff.
Mackie just finished production in Michael Bay's dark comedy Pain and Gain, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg. He will be seen next in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, out next month and Gangster Squad, in theaters this September.

I have NO doubt Mackie can carry a film. NONE. He just hasn't had too many opportunities to do so. Team Mackie. :)

To me, he's not a leading man. You either have that "X" factor or you don't. I can't see him carrying a picture.

My problem with Anthony Mackie is that the more "successful" he's become, the more uninteresting his roles are becoming to me. It's as simple as that. Maybe it's because this is the best Hollywood has to offer. But it's true, he is obviously taking advantage of the fame and is going for the money now. Perhaps he's gaining financial security for some future risky career moves?

Is he ever going to...like you know...star in a movie? He's so ready to criticize black filmmakers for being lazy or whatever and that he is working his butt off. Well, to what end? If he's always going to be "the detective" who chases the white main character, he might as well go work at McDonald's for what that's worth. He plays roles they could give to a dog.
