Damon Wayans Jr. and
Jake Johnson (
The New Girl) will star in
Let’s Be Cops, which has been given the greenlight by
20th Century Fox.
To be directed by
Luke Greenfield from his own script, the film will follow two best friends looking to add some excitement to their lives, who choose to impersonate cops for kicks - a plan that gets them into a heap of trouble when they unknowingly mess with a real mobster, and shit suddenly gets real.
The project is currently filling out its cast, but no ETA on when production is expected to begin, or when we can expect to see the film in theaters... assuming that's the goal.
Wayans' relatively short resume comprises primarily of TV work, most recently, as a series regular on
ABC's Happy Endings.

With the recent glut of buddy cop comedies, it's hard to imagine this one will be a fresh perspective, but Wayans & Johnson are both hilarious so I'm interested. While I love Happy Endings and think Lamorne Morris has gotten so much better on New Girl, I do often wish Wayans could have stayed on NG with Johnson and the rest of the gang.
