Darryl DMC McDaniels, founding member of iconic rap group, RUN DMC, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a project that combines his first loves - hip hop culture and comic books, which he says just might change the face of pop culture forever!

DMC wants to independently publish an original comic set to be released this fall, teaming up with some comic book and music world pros to craft what he calls the first 100% authentic, unapologetic, indie, hip hop comic book, helmed by Art Director Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez and Music Executive Riggs Morales.

What's the story?

Set in hip-hop’s revolutionary era of the 80’s, the first comic features DMC as a superhero fighting for justice in an alternate universe. Wild Style-inspired graffiti covers every surface of this world as the true grit of pre-Giuliani New York is captured within the pages of the graphic novel.

More details on the endeavor:

The first book published will be the 64 page graphic novel, DMC, under the imprint,Darryl Makes Comics.  Darryl “DMC” McDaniels is the publisher, Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez is the Editor in Chief and Riggs Morales is the Senior Editor. The graphic novel will feature some of the comic book industry’s finest talent. Pencils and character design are handled by International star artist, Damion Scott (Batman, Batgirl, Robin, Solo and Spiderman) while inking will be provided by Dexter Vines(Superman, Batman, Civil War, Wolverine). The writer on this book is Ronald Wimberly, writer of the critically acclaimed “Prince of Cats” on Vertigo/DC.  There will also be a limited collector’s edition printed as an oversized 11” x 17” graphic novel, featuring cover art by legendary Marvel artist, Sal Buscema (Avengers, Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk) and style master graffiti legend Carlos "Mare 139" Rodriguez (Style Wars).

The campaign was actually launched on July 12, thirteen days ago, but I was only just alerted to it, likely in a, effort to help stir up interest in a campaign that's raised only $1,175 of its $100,000 goal, as of the time of this post! Or a little over 1%, which is nothing really.

Clearly, it has a very long way to go before meeting its goal, with just 16 days left in the campaign. But, stranger things have happened! There might be an army of DMC fans out there, reading this, who aren't aware of the campaign, and, with this post, empty their wallets en masse to help ensure that it attracts the remaining $98,825 it needs to be successful.

So check out DMC's video pitch below, and if you buy what he's selling, click HERE to head over to the project's Kickstarter page to make your contribution.
