On the heels of yesterday's news that he'd joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's super-secret sci-fi project Interstellar, Brit actor David Gyasi will be starring in an upcoming thriller titled Panic - his first true starring role, as he headlines the film which is directed by Sean Spencer, and is currently listed as being in post-production after a later 2012 shoot.
In the film, Gyasi plays music journalist Andrew Deeley, who lives in a high-rise tower block, cut off from the world, psychologically scarred after a vicious attack. He becomes infatuated with one his neighbors, Kem, a beautiful young Chinese woman. When Amy, a married woman he meets online, witnesses Kem's kidnapping, Deeley is left with no choice but to try and find Kem himself. Armed with only an Oyster card and a hammer, Deeley has to navigate the criminal underworld as he fights to save Kem.
By the way, an Oyster card is essentially the equivalent of a Metro card here in New York, or a train/bus pass.
Pippa Nixon, Jason Wong, and Yennis Cheung round out Panic's starring cast.
Produced by White Night Films, Panic was shot in London in late 2012, and is expected to debut sometime this year.
Gyasi will join fellow Brit John Boyega in a new BBC Two feature drama titled The Whale, based on the the book, The Loss of the Ship Essex, Sunk by A Whale.
