Distribution company Wild Bunch has picked up Colombian director Simon Brand’s English-language, Africa-set found-footage-style thriller titled Default, which stars David Oyelowo, Greg Callahan, Katherine Moennig, and Stephen Lord, in a film that tells the story of "the hijacking of an American news crew’s plane on an African runway by Somali pirates who were the subjects of their reportage," says Screen Daily.

Distribution company Wild Bunch has picked up Colombian director Simon Brand’s English-language, Africa-set found-footage-style thriller titled Default, which stars David OyelowoGreg Callahan, Katherine Moennig, and Stephen Lord, in a film that tells the story of "the hijacking of an American news crew’s plane on an African runway by Somali pirates who were the subjects of their reportage," says Screen Daily.

It's not clear in what country/city this "African runway" resides, but given that the hijacking is done by Somalis, we can assume that it's a runway somewhere in Somalia. There are more than a dozen airports in the east African country, in the Horn of Africa.

Also not public info is what roles exactly each of these actors play, although we can assume they're all part of the American news crew. Unless Oyelowo will be on the other side of the argument, playing one of the Somalis.

Joining Oyelowo, other actors of African descent in the film include Senyo Amoaku, Benjamin OchiengMohamed DioneKamal Moummad, Peres Owino and Karim Ndiaye; and while none of them is Somalian, I'm assuming that some or all of them will play the "Somali pirates."

Whose POV will the story be told from, in what light will the Somalis be portrayed, and how comprehensive the overall story will be, aren't public info yet either.

It’s a Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity-style film… you really feel like you’re there... We saw the film and fell for it immediately – it sort of came out of nowhere. CAA, which is handling North America, thinks it will be the standout pic at Sundance,” said Wild Bunch’s sales chief Vincent Maraval.

He may have revealed something he wasn't yet supposed to in the last half of his comment - that the film is likely heading to Sundance 2013.

This continues the Somali Pirate movie bomb-rush we've seen materialize over the last 24 months.

Default is one of five new titles Wild Bunch will take to the American Film Market in Santa Monica at the end of this month.

It's former music video director Simon Brand's 3rd feature film.

Time magazine annointed his first feature, 2008's Paraiso Travel, one of the best Latin American films of the decade.

Default was produced by Julian Giraldo at RCN Cine, a subsidiary of Columbian television network RCN, which was launched last year with the goal of making English-language films for the international market.
