"I think that you’ll find it very provocative. It’s definitely an unexpected choice after Precious. The reviews have been mixed. They’re the same as Precious, but I’m not here to please you as I did with Precious. With Paperboy, there’s some big stars in it [including Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey and Nicole Kidman] and they were surprised that I got them to do what I got Mo'Nique and Gabby [Gabourey Sidibe] to do. But I think die hard Lee Daniels fans will love the film and those who can’t stomach the truth will be appalled and call it disgusting."

The trailer for his latest work, The Paperboy, dropped a couple of days ago, 2 months after the film shocked and polarized audiences at its Cannes Film Festival premiere, to no surprise of this writer; after all, it's Lee Daniels we're talking about here. When has a film he's made (whether produced or directed) not been at the center of spirited debates among critics and audiences alike? Tennessee maybe? Then again, how many folks actually saw that mostly-forgotten film? It managed $16,000 at the box office in a 3-week long limited release.

A veteran industry writer recently told me that he's thinking of penning an essay comparing Lee Daniels to Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Food for thought... I'm looking forward to reading that piece.

This is interesting... So Lee Daniels apparently couldn't get his original MLK project off the ground (titled Selma, which had David Oyelowo starring), and has switched gears, still staying on the MLK course, but this time teaming with Hugh Jackman (who was also attached to Selma), to take on Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination in a new film that will reportedly explore an "unconventional view of King's murder."
