TV One will premiere the 2-hour original movie, "Girlfriends’ Getaway," which stars Garcelle Beauvais, Terri J. Vaughn, Malinda Williams and Essence Atkins, in a dramedy, shot entirely on location in Trinidad, that tells the story of an innocent birthday getaway taken by 4 longtime friends that turns into a life changing adventure.

While I may not always fall in love with the content, I appreciate and I'm encouraged by the recent push for original content amongst existing black TV networks (or networks that cater heavily to black audiences).

Former Executive Vice President of Tyler Perry Studios, Roger Bobb, who left the company earlier this year to start his own film production company called Bobcat Films, made his feature film directorial debut with a project titled Raising Izzie - a film that premiered on the GMC (Gospel Music Channel) in July.
