You know, now that I think about it, if my mother were still alive today (she died almost exactly 10 years ago after battling cancer for 2 years)... if she were still alive today, I actually think she'd love Tyler Perry movies, despite the fact that I'm certainly not a fan, as I'm sure most of you know very well by now.

Seems like it's been a while since this has been in the news (our last post was in June, and it received almost 100 comments). But in case you've forgotten... Alex Cross opens this month - less than 3 weeks from now actually, so, as long as Summt Entertainment goes the press screenings route, expect reviews to start coming in very soon.

I don’t know if you remember this or not, but around 2005 I took off from touring my Madea plays for about 5 years. During that time, I was working mostly on movies and TV shows. Well, as much as I love to be out on stage and doing a live Madea show, the time has come again for me to take a long break from the stage. I have some major projects that I'm working on that will require a lot of my time and effort. Just know that I did not want to stop this tour until I had hit as many cities as possible. So I'm going to finish out this Fall leg of the tour and then take a long break.

Just like in the Stateside poster, the suggestion here is that this is less Tyler Perry's Alex Cross, and more of a set up for a collision of equals.

I actually had a moment when I thought, wait a minute, his first film was released in 2005, so either his math is faulty, or I'm missing something. Then I realized, oh yeah, he's been on the black theater circuit for a long time now - since 1992, when he was just a young 22 years old who'd bought into the so-called Horatio Alger myth, hustling like a beaast in Atlanta, trying to make something of himself, and climb society's socioeconomic ladder.
