Comic-Con 2013: Djimon Hounsou Is Korath + What Zoe Saldana's Gamora Looks Like In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'

More Comic-Con news announced this weekend that should be of interest...Djimon Hounsou has joined the cast of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, playing a villain named Korath the Pursuer. Here's how the character is described, including what his super powers are:Korath is a member of the alien Kree race, who was augmented by an unknown experimental cyber-genetic engineering process. He has superhuman strength, stamina, and durability. He also has the ability to psionically locate individuals by tracing their brain patterns. Like other Kree, Korath has the inability to breathe in Earth's atmosphere without a special apparatus or breathing serum. Korath is an expert in cyber-genetic engineering. He is trained in the martial skills of the ancient Kree, and is a competent but relatively inexperienced armed and unarmed combatant. Korath wears an armored battle-suit and helmet composed of unknown alien materials. He wields two 1½ foot beta-batons which generate electrical force capable of stunning opponents into unconsciousness on contact or disrupting functions of electrical devices. By adjusting the batons, Korath can stun beings as powerful as Eternals or even intangible beings. He is capable of flight via electrically powered turbines in his boots.Hounsou joins the previously-cast Zoe Saldana, who'll play the female lead in the big screen adaptation - aka Gamora, described as "the green-skinned humanoid who is the last of a species that was exterminated by a race known as the Badoon. She also happens to be a skilled assassin."

More Comic-Con news announced this weekend that should be of interest...

Djimon Hounsou has joined the cast of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, playing a villain named Korath the Pursuer.

Here's how the character is described, including what his super powers are:

Korath is a member of the alien Kree race, who was augmented by an unknown experimental cyber-genetic engineering process. He is capable of flight via electrically powered turbines in his boots.

Hounsou joins the previously-cast Zoe Saldana, who'll play the female lead in the big screen adaptation - aka Gamora, described as "the green-skinned humanoid who is the last of a species that was exterminated by a race known as the Badoon. She also happens to be a skilled assassin."

The character sounds like a combination of Neytiri (the character she played in Avatar) and Cataleya, the character she played in Colombiana.

Hounsou and Saldana join Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Lee Pace as Ronan.

James Gunn is directing the movie, which has already began shooting, with Disney planning to release it on August 1, 2014

An early trailer was screened for Comic-Con attendees, which I'm sure will eventually find its way online - at least we hope so. But ahead of that (assuming it's coming) the folks at ComicBook.com were present at the showing, and published a description of what they saw, which follows:

The Guardians Of The Galaxy trailer kicks off on a barren alien world. Chris Pratt’s character Peter Quill (also known as Star-Lord) is entering what looks to be some type of darkened, ancient temple. Peter Quill is there to steal some type of ancient alien artifact. Suddenly, a bunch of aliens with huge guns confront Peter Quill, ordering him to drop the artifact now. Djimon Hounsou’s character Korath the Puruer asks Peter Quill, “Who are you?” Peter Quill replies, “I’m Star-Lord.” Korath asks, “Who?” Peter Quill quips, “Star-Lord, legendary outlaw. Forget it.” The scene suddenly shifts to an alien prison, where the Guardians Of The Galaxy team is in an usual suspect type line-up. John C. Reilly’s character Rhomann Dey is doing a roll-call description. Starlord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot have all been arrested. It’s noted that Rocket Raccoon has over fifty charges of vehicular theft. When Rhomann Dey pokes fun of Peter Quill calling himself Star-Lord, Peter Quill slowly turns up his middle finger. Next, there is a series of various pieces of action footage, which involves a prison riot. At the end of the trailer. Rhomann Dey says, “They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy.” Another guard responds, “What a bunch of a-holes.”

And finally, Marvel released some concept art for the film, featuring our Guardians, including Zoe Saldana's Gamora, second from left, in the image above (click HERE for a much larger version of that image).

Below, you'll find artwork for Djimon Hounsou's Korath The Pursuer.

I haven't read a single copy of the comic book that the film is based on, so I have no commentary, nor do I have any expectations here. But I'm sure some of you are familiar, so feel free to chime in with your thoughts on any of what I've written here.
