Announced this morning, the Oscars event will include a special celebration of movie musicals released in the last ten years.

Not a surprise at all, given that the show's producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, have films like Chicago and Hairspray, TV series like Smash, and Broadway credits like How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, on their resumes.

The 85th Academy Awards ceremony, which is set for February 24, will celebrate the aforementioned Chicago, as well as Les Misérables and, of course, Dreamgirls - the 2006 musical adapted from the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name, which starred Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles, Eddie Murphy, and Jennifer Hudson, Danny Glover, Anika Noni Rose, and Keith Robinson. It was the acting debut of American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson - a role for which she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

"The musical as a motion picture genre has had a remarkable renaissance in the last decade,” said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "We are excited to showcase three musical films... on our Oscar® show."

What exactly this showcase will include, we'll just have to wait to find out on February 24.

Interesting but why nothing to celebrate 50 years since Sidney Poitier's win in the Leading Acting category.

She's definitely overexposed. All of the perceived "hate" is just annoyance.

I STILL have flashbacks of the medley Bey, Jen, and Anika did years ago at the Oscars. All of that over singing irks my spirit. *shudders*
