Eddie Murphy Wants Another Shot At Oscars Host; Reveals Plans Ratner Had To Give "Much-Needed Boost" To Show

Don't count Eddie Murphy out as Oscar host just yet; he just might get another shot; well, at least he's interested; whether or not he'll be given a second chance is another thing.

As we all know, Eddie was all set to make his debut as the host of the Academy Awards, but then suddenly stepped down when producer (who was hired to shepherd the ceremony) Brett Ratner had to resign after his dumbass homophobic comment.

And we all know what happened after: Brian Grazer and Billy Crystal stepped in to replace the former pair, and many of us around here were disappointed. And that initially disappoinment was only confirmed by what I felt was a rather dull event last weekend.

Now eddie says he wants the job... again, telling Access Hollywood:

"It's still something that I would like to do one day, because all the best comics have done it. It's one of the few things I haven't done in my 35 years in this business, so I would like to have that be part of my resume as well."

What I found most interesting were his comments about what he and Ratner had planned for the event when they were attached to produce and host the show, saying that he and Ratner would have given the ceremony a "much-needed boost," and that they had big plans for the evening, focusing on the music:

"The other award shows -- the Grammys and the American Music Awards -- all those music shows, they pop. So there's no reason why the Oscars can't pop too. You've got 10 songs that are up for Song of the Year, so you should have killer musical performances and so the show should be moving and Brett had all these ideas about it. He was really gonna direct the Oscars ... When he finished telling me about it, (I) was like, 'Yeah! Let's do it!' And that's what I got excited about doing -- like a hipper, faster, choppier version of the show."

Too bad we never got to see it.

Let's see what happens next year; maybe he'll be giving another shot... maybe. But Ratner? After all the public and press heat his homophobic slur generated, I'm not so sure the Academy will be in any rush to bring him back.
