The Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles moves into its 2nd and final week, culminating with the closing night film screening of Shola Lynch's Angela Davis documentary, Free Angela & All Political Prisoners.

And not only will this be the film's first public screening since its Toronto International Film Festival debut last September, we've also learned from the festival exclusively that the subject of the film, Angela Davis, and one of its celebrity executive producers, Jada Pinkett Smith, will be special guests in attendance of that closing night screening. So those of you who'll be present should consider yourselves extra lucky!

Naturally, you can expect that a Q&A with the director, as well as Davis and Pinkett will follow the screening.

Free Angela & All Political Prisoners will screen as the PAFF's closing night film, this Sunday, February 17, at 6pm, at Rave Cinemas.

Ticket are $35 (includes the after party), or $14.40 (for the screening only). I'm sure the screening was already a hot-sell; and I'd guess that with this news, ticket sales will likely see an uptick.

Free Angela & All Political Prisoners is described as:

... a feature-length documentary about Angela Davis and the high stakes crime, political movement, and trial that catapults the 26 year-old newly appointed philosophy professor at the University of California at Los Angeles into a seventies revolutionary political icon. Nearly forty years later, and for the first time, Angela Davis speaks frankly about the actions that branded her as a terrorist and simultaneously spurred a worldwide political movement for her freedom.

I screened the film last fall, while it was at TIFF, and reviewed it (read that review HERE if you missed it).

A trailer follows at the bottom of this post.

The ongoing PAFF 2013 is all taking place at the new Rave Cinemas Baldwin Hills 15 at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza in Los Angeles.
