Yes, it really is happening folks, with F. Gary Gray directing - the NWA biopic project, Straight Outta Compton - another one of those "in limbo" biopics I wrote about a little bit ago that just may be on its way to becoming realized.

Last we wrote about it, Ice Cube said in an interview that it was definitely happening, but he didn't reveal much detail. He did say they were on the hunt for a director. But the project has obviously found its guy in Gray.

F. Gary Gray’s last big screen project was in 2009 with Law Abiding Citizen. Since then he's been attached to helm 3 or more different projects, and none has materialized; would be great to see him back at work again.

Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez are producing the NWA project via Cube Vision, along with Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Woods.

And via Twitter last night, Gray shared the following:

I'm casting for my next film STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. Spread the word! Thanks!

And with that tweet came the below photo (so we can say then that it looks like casting is completely open for this, which I think is the best way to go actually; go ahead actors - this might be the break you've been looking for... maybe):

Saw him at the premiere of Middle of Nowhere the other night. He looked full of energy. He's a great under appreciated director.

How about they had to re-release the breakdown to inform people that Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and DJ Ren were BLACK? That was hilarious.
