He hasn't been behind the camera since 2009's Law Abiding Citizen; since then he's been attached to a Marvin Gaye biopic, and the film adaptation of the video game titled Kane & Lynch, which was/is to star Jamie Foxx and Bruce Willis; though nothing has happened on either front.

Last summer, it was announced that director F. Gary Gray was then attached to helm The Last Days Of American Crime, with first Sam Worthington, and then Noomi Rapace attached to star.

The project is based on a graphic novel of the same name, which is set in the not-too-distant future, and centers on a major terrorism attack on American soil, and the government's response to it - "developing technology that eliminates the impulse to commit crimes of any kind."

A career criminal and leader of a heist team plans to pull off a final job before the technology is put to use, and is rushed into completing it when news of the heist plan is leaked.

Production was supposed to begin last September.

It never did; and it's being reported this morning that a new director - commercials and music video director Anthony Mandler - is in talks to make his feature directing debut with this film adaptation.

And that obviously means that F. Gary Gray is no longer attached to the project.

When will brothaman get behind the camera again to helm a studio (or even indie) feature project? I dunno... on one hand it's great that his name continues to be in consideration for studio projects, but it would also be nice if one of them is eventually realized.

The last F. Gary Gray film that I actually enjoyed was The Negotiator... release in 1998.

Set It Off was a revelation. That movie was electrifying. Based up that movie alone he should be hollywood's top director by now. I have no idea why that hasn't happened. He needs to stay away from any films he does not write on his own.

Maybe he should do some great TV like HBO or something?
