As you can see in the on-set photos below (posted several days ago initially), principal photography has officially begun on Spike Lee's Oldboy adaptation; it actually started shooting early last week - Monday it was I believe.

Josh Brolin stars along with Samuel L. JacksonSharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen.

Lee is directing from a script penned by Mark Protosevich, who is also co-producing, along with Roy LeeDoug Davison and Nathan Kahane of Good Universe.

As was announced at the Toronto Film Festival last month, FilmDistrict has picked up US distribution rights to the film, which is expected in 2013.

This afternoon, Box Office Mojo is reporting that FilmDistrict will release the film wide on October 11, 2013. Thus far, it has no competition, since no other films have been slated to open on that date; although that'll change I'm sure.

So we've got a whole year to wait for this! I didn't think it would be pushed that far back.
