Described as a modern-day indecent proposal, Lapdance, previously titled "Monica," has just released its first clip. The film, which will screen this June at the American Black Film Festival in Miami, is directed by Gregory Carter, from a script by both Carter and Datari Turner; the latter is producting via his Datari Turner Productions, along with Gordon Bijelonic-Datari Turner Films and Imprint Entertainment.

Lapdance revolves around Monica (Ali Cobrin), an aspiring actress who "makes a pact with her fiance to take a job as an exotic dancer to care for her cancer-stricken father."

The film's lengthy cast list includes: Mariel Hemingway, James Remar, Lynn Whitfield, Omari Hardwick, Carmen Electra, Lisa Raye, Robert Hoffman, Briana Evigan, Nia Peoples, Datari Turner, Omar Gooding, Keith Robinson, Lew Temple, Stacey Dash, Obba Babatunde, Quinton Aaron, K.D. Aubert, Christian Keyes, Wesley Jonathan, Terrell "T.O." Owens, Ron Jeremy, and Dennis White.

Lil Wayne song in the background. Is this the original trailer because it appears a little bootleggish to me?

  • Ghost | May 31, 2013 9:59 PMReply

Who did some of these folks wrong to get in this film? Mariel Hemingway-Lifetime didn't have a movie for you to do? You know you are in trouble if Terrell Owens is in it. He has an excuse for doing this-he needs the money.

Has all the makings of classic rachetpiece theatre. I'll at least hate-watch it for laughs when the edited version shows up on BET.

  • Miles Ellison | May 31, 2013 10:02 PM

Ratchetpiece theater is a good description.

  • PhredG | May 31, 2013 5:43 PMReply

Sigh. Two minutes of my life I'll NEVER get back. Actually, this is for an episode of PUNKED.
Turn around! See the camera? Stuff like this is gonna make me have to re-think my BlackFolksWorkin' fallback.

  • Miles Ellison | June 2, 2013 6:11 PM

    Or cleaning toilets.

  • Adam Scott Thompson | May 31, 2013 11:16 PM

Most of the work is digging ditches.

  • sandra | May 31, 2013 5:35 PMReply

I expect Lisa Raye to be involved in something like this NOT Lyn Whitfield.

  • Ern | June 2, 2013 12:29 PM

This looks bad and I don't like seeing good actors in shitty movies, but singling out Lynn & saying she has no dignity is fucking low disrespectful uncalled for all of the above. Miles Ellison = asshole.

  • CC | June 2, 2013 11:01 AM

CHECK-CHECK Sandra. Have you checked to see whose been in TP's films? Well, let me remind you. If I am not mistaken, some of the greatest black actors have performed in several Tyler Perry films ( I know I don't have to list them?). In reference to 50 Cents, do I need to list whose been in his films? Well, let me just mention Robert De Niro and Forrest Whitaker. Are you sad for them too?

  • CC | June 2, 2013 10:28 AM

Good point ERN. If a person takes the time to dig beneath the surface, they'd surely find more gold.

Well, the brothas behind this production have been paying their dues and creating jobs for black actors for several years. Also --> "When his schedule permits, Greg enjoys teaching filmmaking. He founded the Fifth Ward Young Filmmaker's Project in 1992. Through the program, Greg instructed over a hundred youths from 1992 to 1996. In 1995, Houston Mayor Bob Lanier and Council Member Michael Yarbrough awarded him citations for his service, involvement, and contribution to the Fifth Ward community. In association with Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP), he recently taught a filmmaking class at Project Row Houses for underprivileged youths to give them the opportunity to learn the craft and art of storytelling through film."

Furthermore, if the actors in this production seem familiar, many of them were in Datari's "Dysfunctional Friends".

  • sandra | June 2, 2013 10:24 AM

@ERN - Actually, I'm embarrassed for ALL involved. / @ Miles and Adam - Didn't know about her involvement in 50's film (so sad!). I remember now, I did catch her in TP's melodramatic movie (sigh).

  • Ern | June 2, 2013 4:49 AM

Fuck y'all. Is she getting naked or sucking dick onscreen? Then it ain't about losing dignity, it's just about working. She's older now and the buz is rough. Y'all ain't got shit to say about James Remar or Omari Hardwick.

  • Miles Ellison | June 1, 2013 11:56 PM

Or that Tyler Perry movie she was in. Dignity is rapidly becoming a speck in her rear view mirror.

  • Adam Scott Thompson | May 31, 2013 11:15 PM

You must not have seen "All Things Fall Apart" with 50 Cent. She's a long, long way from "The Josephine Baker Story."

  • Sean Jackson | May 31, 2013 1:03 PMReply

    Booooooooooooo!

  • Adam Scott Thompson | May 31, 2013 12:54 PMReply

    Where should I begin?

  • sergio | May 31, 2013 11:18 AMReply

Hey I gotta see this movie. What a cast and RON JEREMY is in the film too? (I've met the great man a few times and told him what an inspiration he is to me)

  • sergio | June 2, 2013 12:42 PM

Don't be cruel. Don't ruin the fantasy!

  • Miles Ellison | June 2, 2013 12:21 AM

You do realize that those women were paid to have sex with him, don't you?

  • sergio | May 31, 2013 12:43 PM

He inspires me to believe that repulsive ugly guys can make too to live the life that guys like him can only dream about

  • CareyCarey | May 31, 2013 12:27 PM

*LOL* Stop it Sergio, next you'll tell us John Holmes was another "inspiration" who you met before his demise? More importantly, you know your comment could be taken wrong by a certain crowd *coughwomencough*. Surely you know Ron Jeremy's nickname is "The Hedgehog", which he didn't acquire for trimming hedges.

Btw, how did he inspire you? *giggle & smirk*

  • NO BRAINER | May 31, 2013 10:57 AMReply

Looks ridiculous. Razzies all around the cast. Badly done.

  • DJP | May 31, 2013 9:39 AMReply

Looks gripping. Oscars all around the cast. Well done.

  • yes | May 31, 2013 6:40 AMReply

    That was epic

  • RiRi | May 31, 2013 12:06 AMReply

    All I see is signs,
all I see is $ signs...

  • ALM | May 30, 2013 9:40 PMReply

Why are these strippers 50 years old?

What bill did Lynn Whitfield receive in the mail that made her break down and take a role in this?

Why is the mother pimping out her own daughter?

Why does this look like it was shot in someone's garage?

  • NO BRAINER | May 31, 2013 10:59 AM

    Hey, Lisa.Raye too... right? O_o

  • FactChecker | May 31, 2013 12:47 AM

What bill did Lynn Whitfield receive in the mail that made her break down and take a role in this?

Likewise for Mariel Hemingway, Obba Babbatunde, James Remar and Keith Robinson?

  • Miles Ellison | May 30, 2013 9:13 PMReply
