Expectations are even higher for the upcoming new season 3 of FX's series American Horror Story (which will be titled American Horror Story: Coven) thanks in part to the additions of Angela Bassett and  Gabourey Sidibe to the cast.

Also veteran stage star Patti LuPone has hopped along for the ride from series creator Shawn Ryan.

The actresses join a cast that already includes Jessica LangeEvan Peters, Sarah PaulsonTaissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy and Lily Rabe.

Although I never quite got into the series (not because I didn't like it. There's just so much else competing for my attention), with the addition of Sidibe and Bassett, I'm playing catch up before the new season arrives on October 9 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX.

The new season's breakdown if you missed it previously:

It's been over 300 years since the Salem witch trials. Those who remain are almost extinct and in danger again. A school has opened in New Orleans to teach protection to the young. The long-absent Supreme arrives to also protect the new students and their secrets. The themes include witches, witch hunts, incest, minorities, slavery, mothers and daughters, and witchcraft versus voodoo. This season will be set in modern day and the 1830s.

The last time Bassett appeared as a series regular on any TV show was during the final season (2008–2009) of the once hit medical drama ER on NBC

Sidibe was most recently a regular on Showtime's The Big C.

Ahead of the broadcast premiere of Coven, FX has been releasing short teasers, each one somewhat cryptic, unveiling bits and pieces of the new season. This is probably the least cryptic of those I've seen thus far. Titled Initiation, you'll catch a glimpse of Sidibe and Bassett, but just don't blink.

Just keepin it real ...Gabby is REALLY Hard to look at, while everyone else is somewhat attractive.

Forrest Whitaker and Mickey Rourke are hard to look at, yet people don't feel the need to point it out all the time.

Gabby DID look hella awkward walking up those steps, but actors don't exist simply for our sexual pleasure, so get over it. I guess it's cool that you found the girl with Downs Syndrome sexually attractive, tho.

Well it does look like she's struggling to walk up those steps...

From looking at the photograph of what is coming for this season of FX networks series "American Horror Story". It's going to be an interesting time. Since there will be some important actresses for this season. Horror is sort of my favorite genre if it's written right Horror can be interesting special with the story line. This season with actress Angela Bassett and actress Gabourey Sidibe including with other actress of the stage actress Patti LuPone. The title of this season show will be American Horror Story: The Coven which even is more intriguing. October 9 is the time when this show returns. I think will check it out. I'm familiar sort of to American Horror Story but haven't indulged into the episodes.

I only ever watched Season 1, and it was addictive but I can't say I loved it. However, this trailer makes me all kinds of excited for this season!

How in the WORLD could you forget to mention the addition of KATHY BATES (a.k.a. Nurse Annie Wilkes from "Misery") to next season's cast???? Lol! Season 3 is going to be AWESOME! Can't wait.

Each season has it's own stand alone storyline and brand new characters, so there's no catching up to do unless you're just curious about the first two seasons.

I'm not a horror fan, but I started watching after a friend suggested I check it out. For most of season 1, I would have to DVR it and watch it during the daytime and both seasons I had to fast forward the opening credits because it was too damn scary, but I never missed an episode. I'm glad to see they're finally putting some more color on screen.

I've seen the entire first season and was hooked from there. I started watching season 2 and like you suffered from a short attention span from all the new content. I still need to catch up.

But this one has me very excited
