You know, it's a shame that he's not shown in the film's trailer, not even for a millisecond! Disappointing to say the least; I've been anticipating this film since we announced he would portray Keira Knightley's significant other. I thought it was an interesting premise and an even more interesting casting choice. Alas, at least we get a picture. *shrug*
In Seeking A Friend For The End of The World, Derek Luke plays an Army man who wants his girlfriend, played by Knightley, to join him at a bomb shelter where he's seeking refuge before the world ends from an asteroid crashing into the Earth. Here's your first look of Luke in the role with his Army tags necklace.
I have the feeling Knightley will fall for Steve Carrell instead.
The full synopsis reads, "Set in a too-near future, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World explores what people will do when humanity’s last days are at hand. Can one man find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge (Mr. Carell) and Penny (Ms. Knightley) converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten."
Seeking A Friend For The End of The World hits theaters on April 20, 2012.
Luke also stars in the Sony Pictures' Sparkle remake, set for theater release on August 10, 2012.
We also just announced last week that Luke is joining Danny Glover, Lela Rochon, and Evan Ross for the thriller Supremacy.
Anyways, here's the Derek Luke-less trailer for Seeking A Friend For The End of The World:
