Here's your first official look at Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal in the education-reform drama, initially titled Still I Rise, then switched to Learning To Fly, and finally landed on and has, so far, stuck to Won't Back Down.

The photo is from a New York Times piece on the film as a reflection of an ongoing real battle for schools as the article headlines it.

You can read the entire piece HERE if you'd like. It doesn't really reveal any plot elements we don't already know something of, but is more of a profile of the cause the film (and its backers) want to highlight.

The film was initially scheduled to be released on March 30th, 2012, but the studio distributing it (Fox) pushed that date all the way back to September 30th. They likely feel they might have an awards-contender on their hands.

The education drama, produced by Walden Media & 20th Century Fox, is centered on two frustrated mothers (played by Viola and Maggie Gyllenhaal) who team up to transform an inner-city public school in Pittsburgh, PA

Specifically, Viola plays a teacher who risks plenty to join the cause; while Gyllenhaal plays a single mother who "sells cars, tends bar and rouses parents to take charge of their grade school."

Rosie Perez as well as Fringe and The Wire star Lance Reddick co-star in the film playing the tough head of the school board (Perez), and Viola Davis' husband who also happens to be a teacher (Reddick).

Daniel Barnz (Beastly) directed the film.

No trailer to show yet, but soon I'm sure.

My children and I were involved in the filming of this movie. Maggie and Viola are great! Can't wait to see it! My kids play private school kids ( look for us on the playground)!

If they start a charter school in the end, I am going to puke.
