Ride Along isn't set to hit theaters until January 17, 2014, but, in April, it was reported that Universal Pictures is already considering a sequel.

Ride Along stars Ice CubeKevin HartTika SumpterJay PharoahJohn Leguizamo and Bryan Callen, in a film that will see Hart play a high school security guard who is ready to get married, but must first survive a Training Day-like ride along experience with her tough cop brother, played by Ice Cube, who doesn’t want the marriage to happen and tries to scare Hart's character away.

Sumpter plays Hart's fiancee; Callen is a wily, undercover cop alongside John Leguizamo; and Pharoah plays a street-smart informant.

Tim Story directs the movie, while Will Packer is producing via his Rainforest Films banner, with Ice Cube's Cube Vision, and Matt Alvarez's LBI Entertainment.

Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who were among several writers who worked on the original, were dealing with Universal on a sequel that could begin production soon after the first film opens - assuming it's a hit.

I say Kevin Hart is having the best year ever, because, Ride Along is just one of maybe half-a-dozen projects on his 2013/2014 slate; others include his forthcoming concert movie, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain, the remake of About Last Night, the sequel to Think Like A Man, his Real Husbands of Hollywood (which is a hit for BET), Chris Rock's upcoming dramedy, Finally Famous, a currently-untitled Screen Gems/Miramax collaboration from first-timer Jeremy Garelickthat will see The Book Of Mormon‘s Josh Gad, co-starring with Hart, a Lionsgate/Codeblack project titled Quick & Easy (no plot details yet), and more...

I'd say that this current run for Hart really begun after the surprise box office hit that was his last concert movie, Kevin Hart: Laugh At My Pain, which grossed some $7 million for Codeblack Films.

While we wait for all of those other titles to surface, here's the first trailer for Ride Along:

I love me some Craig. Looks like it'll be fun. The trailer was good. Glad to see Ice Cube continuing to produce under his company. Him teaming up with Will Packer, and his company is a good look. Glad Ms. Tika is continuing to get steady work. Congrats all around!!

Yearning for ONE of these MANY projects to tap into or bring out some RANGE/DIVERSITY in him. It's the same old, same old with him and damn near every project he does.

Look funny. Also did not know That a white person wrote Think Like A Man. About Last night and Ride Along. Not that it matters or anything.

In the (not so) proud tradition of Stepin Fetchit...

Dreaming of the day that more nuanced black comedies get made...

The audience must demand nuance first, or else the filmmakers will never listen. Unfortunately, we don't demand nuance or subtext. And Tyler P. and everyone with a deal at BET continue to rake in cash off low expectations. (Tyler, at least, to some degree, is less insidious than BET, as he genuinely has no idea his work is sub-par.)
