Newlyweeds

A double dose of Sundance films trailer debuts today; first Andrew Dosunmu's Mother Of George. And now...

Here's the first trailer for Shaka King's crowd-pleasing stoner dramedy, Newlyweeds, which Phase 4 Films will open on September 182013, at Film Forum theaters here in New York City.

Amari Cheatom and newcomer Trae Harris star in this bittersweet blend of comedy and drama that tells the story of polar opposites Lyle (Cheatom) and Nina (Harris) - a repo-man and a flower child whose bond is forged and frayed by their mutual adoration and voracious consumption of cannabis.

Isiah WhitlockColman Domingo, Tonya Pinkins, Diane NealAdrian Martinez and Hassan Johnson round out the cast.

Jim WareckMichael MatthewsShaka King and Gbenga Akinnagbe are all producers.

It's one of 10 feature films selected by the Sundance Institute for the first-ever NEXT WEEKEND film festival (an extension of the popular NEXT <=> section at the Sundance Film Festival), which takes place this week/weekend, August 8-11, at Sundance Sunset Cinema and additional venues throughout Los Angeles.

Tickets ($12–15) are on sale now at www.sundance.org/nexttickets.

Zeba saw Newlyweeds at the Sundance Film Festival this year, and reviewed the film enthusiastically HERE.

I like the way it looks. I saw a lot of good choices with the camera. And the story looks intriguing. It looks a hell of a lot more interesting than Mother George or whatever that film calls itself.

Looking and feeling lovely. All praises to the filmmakers and the talent....the name, Newlyweeds, ugh. The title just diminishes the whole deal, almost didn't even click it attention cuz I thought it was going to be some shlock.
