Curious that Robert Zemeckis' Flight (which stars Denzel Washington and Don Cheadle) is taking the film festival route before its official theatrical opening in November.

I suppose the intent here is to build some buzz leading up to the film's theatrical release, especially with screenings at prestigious festivals like The New York Film Festival, where it will make its world premiere in October, days before it screens as a Centerpiece Film at the 2012 Austin Film Festival, in Texas.

The Austin Film Festival has announced the first 10 films in its 2012 lineu, including their Centerpiece Film as mentioned above, as well as the 2012 Outstanding Television Writer Awardee, The X-File creator Chris Carter.

The Festival is October 18-25, 2012 in Austin, and you can find more updates including an impressive list of Conference panels and panelists at austinfilmfestival.com.

Promising world premieres, to the highly anticipated films that will compete for Oscars, we'll be highlighting films from the festival's lineup, after the full slate is unveiled.
