Forest Whitaker and Common will team with Michael Chiklis and Ray Liotta for an indie crime feature film titled Pawn.

The film, to be directed by first-timer David A. Armstrong, tells the story of a hostage situation gone terribly wrong, and will be produced by Chiklis’ production company Extravaganza Films.

An ex-con becomes entangled in a manipulative chess game between the Feds, local police and the mob.

No word on who is playing what character.

Pawn starts production this week.

You can catch Common on AMC's new Reconstruction drama Hell On Wheels; Whitaker recently wrapped photography on his horror/thriller Vipaka, with Anthony Mackie and Sanaa Lathan.

I hope this gets a theatrical release. Too many recent films starring either Ray Liotta or Forest Whitaker have just gone straight to DVD.

Why does Common continue to get work?

The Peter Principle is flawed in that it allows people to believe that focus and confidence is not required to succeed when it is; it allows people to create their own glass ceiling in their mind and place it on others. I can't speak for all black women, but I will say that I love Common because of his commitment to positive hip hop, his undying love for black women (and not the ones who uphold the Lena Horne standard of beauty), his swagger and articulation in interviews, his passion and donations to the community, and his potential to grow as a thespian. I will go see him in any tv show or any film any given Sunday over giving my money to these knuckleheads like Wesley Snipes, Boris Kodjoe & Isaiah Mustafa who flippantly demean the natural facial or body features we carry. And if the Peter Principle were truly correct, how has Sylvester Stallone made a killing over 30 years??

His career is the perfect example of "The Peter Principle" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Principle
