Whoa! Not a good sign at all.
It was already scheduled for a June 29 release; but Deadline just reported that Paramount is moving the date to March 29, 2013 instead!
Why, you ask?
To convert to 3D, why else?
"We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally... Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out," said a Paramount exec.
Given how soon the film was already scheduled to be released (just over a month from now), the question beckons to be asked: just how terrible is the movie? And why wait THIS long, THIS close to the film's already scheduled release date, to move it?
I'm sure there'll be a longer explanation from Paramount soon, given all the headscratching this afternoon's news has generated. It certainly doesn't inspire much confidence in audiences, which could affect the film's box office in the long run.
Not that I was all-that interested in seeing it anyway.
One of the 50 movies Dwayne Johnson will appear in over the next 24 months - G.I. Joe: Retaliation - which also stars Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Ray Stevenson and Walton Goggins, will see the Joe team face off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence.
Here’s the current trailer; although expect a new one to be cut some time before March 29, 2013.

Perhaps they want to avoid a clash of the titans... I don't know what else will release on the same June date or prior to. If Battleship wading in the shadows of the mighty colossal Avengers' wake is any indication, perhaps it is best to fall back, trim the fat and use for excuse this 3-D conversion. I have yet to see any blockbuster in 3-D. For me it is useless. Movies are 2-D for a reason...to remind us that they are still movies. I don't need to be ooohed and aaahhed over a drop of sweat leaking from the Rock's brow onto the audience at large. But hey, whatever.
