In April, Rosario Dawson was tapped to play one of two female leads, a well as love interest to Chris Rock in his upcoming dramedy, Finally Famous

Rounding out the starring cast, Gabrielle Union has now joined the project, signing up to play Chris Rock’s character's "beautiful, glamorous and expensive” (according to the character breakdown) popular reality TV star fiancée.

This news according to The Wrap in an exclusive.

Rock, who wrote and will direct the film (his third time behind the camera) plays a comedian-turned-film-star who tries to reinvent himself as a serious actor. He’s also a recovering alcoholic who owes his sobriety to his fiancée (Union). Her character, eager to be more famous, tries to convince Rock to get married on her show.

Rosario Dawson plays a journalist assigned to interview Rock’s character for a New York magazine, described as a former party animal who is now sober and in a committed relationship, but sparks fly as she interviews Rock.

Scott Rudin is producing (he also produced Chris Rock's Broadway debut, The Mother-F with the Hat).

Here's the project's official synopsis:

ANDRE ALLEN is a comedian turned film star who, despite the expectations of his millions of fans, is determined to reinvent himself as a “serious” actor. Although his latest pretentiously historical film project is tanking, his upcoming television wedding to pretty, popular reality star, ERICA LONG, is the biggest media event of the year. In the midst of all the frenzy leading up to his televised nuptials, Andre agrees to be interviewed for the New Yorker by CHELSEA BROWN, a gorgeous but no-frills young woman with a sharp intelligence that matches his own. It’s a feisty, funny, no-holds-barred interaction that may well change the course of both their lives…

Shooting is scheduled to begin this summer.

Uh...last time I looked Chris Rock is rather dark-skinned himself so why not a fiance of like hue. I think Gabrielle will be great for this character (given the current info). It'll be a twist on her DELIVER US FROM EVA performance. No problems with Rosario either. BlackFolksWorkin'.

This film is some crazy straight guy fantasy, the ego of Chris Rock he's had Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, and Rosario Dawson of his love interests. It just suspends my belief Rock is a very unattractive man he should have chosen Whoopi Goldberg as his love interest she's more in his league.

thats where your wrong chris rock is very attractive and he can cast anyone he wants to be in HIS movie!!!!

  • ALM | May 22, 2013 8:16 PM

Wow. Did you have to throw Whoopi under the bus in order to make your point?

    That was harsh.

  • Beemooree | May 22, 2013 1:03 AMReply

Is Gabrielle really dark? She's not to me

  • ALM | May 22, 2013 9:08 AM

With respect to Chris Rock's choice for his other love interest, there is definitely a difference in skin tone.

Of course! Remember what my comment was on the post in which Rosario was cast as the love interest? If not, here it is again:

"But what I wanted to say is, watch, the wife, who's the diva, glamorous and expensive popular reality TV star, and who's probably going to be more despicable and meant to be hated, will be a dark-skinned African American actress, while they cast Rosario Dawson as the intelligent, disarming, funny love interest. Just watch."

And look what happened. Chris Rock can kiss my dark-skinned booty two times!

  • ALM | May 21, 2013 11:35 PM

Nadia, that was you! I thought I remembered someone predicting that the materialistic wife would be darker skinned. Wow

When you think about the fact that Rock is an African American man, this makes the casting really messed up.

Man, these rich and powerful men think they are slick. They get to live out their fantasy love life by producing and casting their own films. LOL

Lord, if I had a studio......Idris, Michael Ealy, Chadwick Boseman......oops.....let me stop.
