Nominees for the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Aziz Ansari, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde and Miss Golden Globe Sosie Bacon joined Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) president Theo Kingma for the announcement.

Nominations were announced in 25 categories, all of which follow below.

Commentary will follow. But in the meantime, of note, 12 Years A Slave, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris ElbaLupita Nyong'o, Barkhad Abdi, Steve McQueen, John Ridley, Kerry Washington, and Don Cheadle, all received nominations.

Of special note, Ejiofor and Elba were nominated twice in the exact same categories: best actor in a film (12 Years A Slave and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom), and best actor in a TV miniseries (Savannah and Luther - an award Idris has won previously, as you can see in the image above).

Surprises? Oprah Winfrey wasn't nominated for Lee Daniels' The Butler. In fact, neither was Lee Daniels nominated for best director for directing Lee Daniels' The Butler.

    No Fruitvale?

  • kirk | December 12, 2013 11:13 AMReply

    So American Hustle is a comedy or musical? So sorry Lee. It shows you can't tell people at the gotham awards to shut the f$%% up when your talking. Hopefully he'll get shut out at the oscars too. And that's the truth! Ruth!

    SE I was referring to Lee Daniels. And that is the truth. Ruth!

  • spirit equality | December 12, 2013 9:36 PM

    @Kirk

    Lee?

    From the "that's the truth, Ruth" reference at the end, I'd think you were referring to Spike Lee (who wrote that bit of dialogue for Sam Jack in Do The Right Thing), but Spike had nothing to do with American Hustle.
