Misfits

You can watch season 4 of the hit Brit series, Misfits, on Hulu right now, if you haven't been keeping up, and catch up before season 5, which the UK's Channel 4 just announced will debut in the fall of this year on E4.

However, one key piece of news included in today's announcement is that the 5th season will be the FINAL season for the series, which means, after season 5, no more Misfits. Although that shouldn't be a big surprise, especially as it was revealed earlier this year that viewership dropped a bit from season 3 to season 4.

And based on some of your past comments, a number of you stopped watching the series after certain characters left.

Here's the announcement from Channel 4:

Misfits creator Howard Overman, Clerkenwell Films and E4 today announced that Rudy (Joseph Gilgun), Jess (Karla Crome), Finn (Nathan McMullen), Alex (Matt Stokoe) and Abby (Natasha O’Keeffe) will sign on for community service one last time in the fifth and final run of the award-winning series – to air on E4 in autumn 2013. All good things must come to an end. It’s tough. We know. But that’s life. We have to deal with it and so do you. But guys, we can help each other, we can talk about our feelings of impending loss and sadness, like you know, a support group. In fact, there’s an idea….

And a support group is what will be at the center of the 8-episode season 5. More from Channel 4 on that:

The new series marks the first anniversary of the storm and a support group forms on the estate for those people who find having a super power isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Like… the ability to knit visions of the future, or to shag unwanted powers out of other people (you read that right) or to transform into a turtle. And as Dark Rudy likes to talk-slash-moan, it should come as no surprise that he is the first of our gang to start attending. And it’s here that he sees a very different future facing the team - one which could change things forever.

Season 4 returned to Channel 4 in the UK, last October, airing on Hulu in the USA a day after episodes aired in the UK, which excited fans Stateside, because it meant, no more having to wait for months for each episode. Season 4 saw the return of Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), Rudy (Joseph Gilgun) and Seth (Matthew McNulty), and new heroes, Jess (Karla Crome) and Finn (Nathan McMullen).

The provocative, outstanding series which proves that superpowers, hormones and court-ordered community service can be an entertaining combo, is written and created by Howard Overman (Merlin).

There was once talk of a USA remake of the series; no word on if that's still in development.

Will you miss Misfits?

WHAT! I finished watching ALL the seasons and couldn't get enough of it. I absolutely LOVE this show!! Bring back MISFITS!!

  • Queenjay | July 28, 2014 12:24 AMReply

Before you all had stop aoring the show the producer could have brought back in old cast one by one and conjoined both cast together. Because i really enjoyed this show and wanted to see more of it.

I didnt stop watching when Nathans character left as i didn't see him as any better than the others, nor did i see him as the character that "held the show together" I also did not like his replacement all that much (he seemed too much like a bad copy) . When 3 more main characters left the show was when it marked the end for me. I couldnt finish the first episode of s4 and decided i was done

This show went down hill after they got rid of nathan. Lost all interest in season 4. So obviously several people felt the same way after their ratings tanked. Goodbye msfits

actually there was a show called misfits of science which came out in the 80s so wouldnt the uk series be a remake of that?

  • Bee-Ell-Zee-Bub | August 20, 2014 2:11 AM

    Exactly! I remember that show and ever since I heard of THIS 'Misfits' show and the many similarities (a small random group of people with 'Superhuman' powers, one is a black male, one is a female, etc.), I IMMEDIATELY thoughts that this is TOO MUCH of a 'coincidence'. I've never even seen ONE episode of this Hulu series, so I could be wrong, but if you're seeing the same similarities that I'm seeing, then... I think we have ourselves a case! ;~}

I loved the cast from season one, two, and three. Season three and four was very entertaining. My only issue at that point with the show was the new lead character name Rudy. I for the life of me couldn't figure out if he was suppose to be obnoxious, rude, indifferent, or WHAT! and so his character sort of through me off of the show. With that side the show continues to be very funny and entertaining.
I however would like to see a movie version of the show with the original cast.

I don't know what any of you are talking about. The writing is excellent and the cast is amazing and talented. Get over the fact the original cast is no longer in the show. Its still a great show! I can't wait to see what happens next on the final season. I hear its going to be bigger and better!

Oh and another thing. My heart also dropped when Curtis met his demise. WTF Moment. They should have stopped it at season 2

  • Jonathan Diosaa | August 22, 2013 5:54 PMReply

Where to begin... the story line was soo good and to think simon traveling through time could have continued in seasons 3 and 4 but they completely crashed the show as if no one was going to notice. they simply wrote off some of the characters, like kelly in africa. nathan being the most annoying to the most loveable, completely removed from the show and left in jail( did you see the bonus ten minute clip) as if Rudy could hold a candle to him or the show( sorry he doesnt appeal to everyone). Some of the new characters could use some lessons in acting. What is up with Finn and his power? Telekenisis? Hardly! I just do not understand how they could save this show. They even removed the beautiful Alisha's makeup towards the second half of her episodes, stripping her of all her erotic allure and personality. Is that why she was the first to leave after Nathan? Nathan left to be on another show.

So... does anyone wonder why the original cast was changed? My guess is... they did not like their new powers. I will give season 5 a chance but most likely its only going to be about the new cast and in no way in relation to the original.

I love the show season 4 sucked so bad. My favorite is season 2 an 3 but after everyone left the series it turned to shit. Bring back Kelly, Simon, an Nathan

  • noname | July 4, 2013 2:55 PMReply

I loved the original show, I watched the whole first season and half the second season back to back in 1 day. (I only stopped halfway through the second season so that I would have something to watch the next day). The third season is mostly ok, but slightly lame. The fourth season so far is mostly complete garbage. I really hope that the fifth season either sucks so bad that I refuse to watch after the first episode or (more importantly) the fifth season is a grand finale with many of the old characters (new footage flashbacks of some who have died too) finalizing their stories and some sort of ending that makes the viewer feel satisfied at the outcome, and the fact that season six isn't going to happen.

  • This guy | April 3, 2013 9:54 AMReply

I really enjoyed the show but I think it's run it's course now that all of the original characters are either dead or in Africa helping needy people (sigh...I miss Kelly and her...twins). The writers have really tries some things but that spark that made season 1 and 2 so special is just missing. And while having "dna" fall out of a girl who's had sex a few minutes ago is a nasty-twisted sight gag, it's a little over the top.

Will have the fingers crossed that this season will be at another level.

My favorite British shows all started off with a BRILLIANT cast and storyline, then painfully deteriorated once they changed the original cast members. It happened after the first 2 seasons of Skins, the first three seasons of Being Human, and the first two seasons of Misfits (season three had some great moments, like the sex change episode with Kehinde Fadipe, but overall it lost the magic of s1 and s2).

  • Luce | April 3, 2013 9:30 AM

That's exactly what I was musing about at the news of Being Human ending. The moment they start changing the cast so drastically, I lost interest in those exact shows you mentioned. I did tough it out 'til season 4 for Skins, but the ending turn me off for good and I coulnd't be bother about a new set of teens.
Being Human was so good, I'm still mad about what they did with it. Didn't watch the last season. I will give them the break down of Hal when he remembered the time he had a horse. The only part with the new guys I liked in season 4. And I probably wont watch the last season of Misfits, season 4 was a pain to sit through.
Apologies for the long monologue, but what MUSE wrote really touch a core.

  • Africameleon | April 2, 2013 2:55 PMReply

I'll miss the classic line up from Season 1 & 2 + Rudy (Joseph Gilgun). When Curtis (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett) died, I stopped watching. I was only holding on b/c he was there, after that the magic was gone.

  • Ashley | April 2, 2013 2:14 PMReply

I will miss Misfits. It feels like I'm losing a friend.
