Halle Berry As Foxy Brown - A Bad Idea We Were Spared (And Another One That Might Have Worked)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! And to start off a new year on S&A, here is, for your holiday entertainment, a piece of absolutely worthless trivia.

But did you know that, back in 2003, Halle Berry had a deal to star and produce in a remake of Foxy Brown for MGM?

Seriously. Like WTF? Whose brilliant idea was this?

Look, I genuinely like Halle, but NO ONE can replace Pam Grier, and especially Ms. Grier in one of her singature roles (The other being Coffy of course).

And like 99% of most remakes, you just know it would've sucked. The project, thankfully, never got off the drawing board, and no reason was ever given. But I would like to think that someone at MGM woke up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat and said "What the F---K are we doing?" and pulled the plug on it.

But there's another high profile project with Halle that got closer to being made that, maybe, might have worked, but didn't get off the ground either.

I'm talking about that James Bond Die Another Day Jinx movie spinoff that, for a hot minute, looked like it was going to be the real thing.

Back in 2003, after the Bond Film became a huge worldwide hit, the producers started work on a Jinx Johnson film to be toplined by Berry, in her own film, after her co-starring role in Day.

A script was even written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have written every Bond film since The World is Not Enough, up to the current Skyfall film, and things were moving ahead.

However, things changed suddenly when, in 2004, MGM stopped development and ordered the screenwriters to immediately end any further rewrites on the Jinx script, and to concentrate on writing the next Bond film, which eventually became Casino Royale.

The studio, at the time, claimed it was the old excuse - "creative diffrences" - that put a stop to the Jinx project.

But I suspect that was just a polite way of saying: "We just saw Catwoman, and decided to cancel that Jinx film ASAP."
