You only have a few hours left New York City, so take heed...
I was only just made aware of a ticket giveaway to an NYC preview screening tomorrow (Wednesday febraury 1) of Carol Morley's critically-acclaimed docu-drama Dreams of a Life, which stars Zawe Ashton - a British film that we've talked about ad naseam here on S&A, and even interviewed its star a little bit ago; so most of you should be familiar with the film at this point.
If not, catch up...
As a recap... the film's synopsis again reads:
Nobody noticed when Joyce Vincent died in her bedsit above a shopping mall in North London in 2003. Her body wasn’t discovered for three years, surrounded by Christmas presents she had been wrapping, and with the TV still on. Newspaper reports offered few details of her life - not even a photograph. Who was she? And how could this happen to someone in our day and age- the so-called age of communication? For her film Dreams of a Life, filmmaker Carol Morley set out to find out. Joyce may have died in tragic isolation, but Morley was not going to let her be forgotten. She placed adverts in newspapers, on the Internet, and on the side of a London taxi. What she finds out is extraordinary. A range of people that once knew Joyce help to piece together a portrait of the woman that became so forgotten. “She was very sweet, beautiful looking, a bit of a mystery. We weren’t too sure where she came from. It’s almost like she was a ghost, even then.” Dreams of a Life becomes as much about the people who remember her as it is about Joyce herself.
It was released (limited) on December 16th in London, and has gradually expanded since then, continuing through March 2012, though only in the UK; good news for our readers across the pond; the rest of us will have to wait and hope that the film travels.
And travel it will; at least plans are definitely in the works, as the director herself said. So, that's good; though I can't say when we can expect it.
But New Yorkers will have a chance to see it in a special preview screening in the city (I think it just might be its first stateside screening) that's scheduled to take place tomorrow, February 1, 2012 - if you win one of the 6 tickets in the giveaway.
I don't have location info, but you are instructed to head over to the film's Facebook page (HERE) and follow the instructions under the post that reads:
New York fans - we have wrangled 3 pairs of tickets to a special preview screening of Dreams of a Life in New York this Wednesday evening (1st February). For your chance to win a pair make sure you have liked the Dreams of a Life facebook page and then leave a comment below, winners picked tomorrow....
So... head on over there, leave your comment saying you want to win one or those pairs of tickets, and hope that you're chosen as one of the winners. I've already done that for myself, and hope I win! :)
But it looks like these are the early stages of what could be an eventual USA release; I suppose it might partly depend on how well these early preview screenings are received.
