Holly Robinson-Peete Dropped From CBS's "The Talk"

Does anyone out there watch CBS's daytime talk show The Talk? Any of you out there? Blatantly inspired (or more like stolen) from ABC network's The View, the show which features women celebrities dishing dirt has actually been a strong ratings-puller for the network.

However the show, which is about to enter its second season soon, will be making some changes. Co-hosts Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne and Julie Chen will stay on the show, but Leah Remini and Holly Robinson-Peete reportedly did not have their options picked up, and will be replaced by new co-hosts.

No word as to why Peete and Remini have been dropped from the show, but since Gilbert is its co-creator, Sharon is married to Ozzy, and Chen is married to the head of CBS programming Les Moonves (which means she'll ALWAYS have a job at CBS), Remini and Peete were expendable.

And that proves the lesson for the day: to stay on top in the TV business, you have to be the creative force behind the scenes, married to (or be willing to have sex with) the boss, or be married to a burned out rock star and speak with a British accent (I guess...).

No word yet as to whether the avocados will stay on the show as well!

I have been watching The Talk from its inception and really enjoyed Leah and Holly. I thought they made the show fun and I miss them tremendously. So much that I do not watch it as much. The one I thought was expendable more than anyone is Sharon Osborne. I think she really thinks too much of herself. Oh probably because no one else does. She needs to look back in her own life before she comments and brings others down.

I think CBS and Julie have lost their mine, it was apparent that the ladies had chemistry, the show was a hit, I work my schedule around the show and I liked when Leah and Holly took turns at the head of the table when Jule was gone, it showed diversity among friends and now that the zest has beein taken out of the show, it's over for me, I love Cheryl Underwood but not in this format, Jenner don't she have enough jobs and that Shannon woman can't put together a thought fast enough for me. It's time to bring the girls back, you didn't give us an explanation on there departure no explanation is needed on their return. Let take a little time to enjoy the "Viiew".

I'm very upset about Leah and Holly not being on the show,I had quit watching the View. cause I really enjoyed all the ladies,on The Talk. Thanks for the let down,I don't know why they are not there .Now I've gone back to the View I wish you luck,I doubt if you make it .

Was very disappointed when I heard Holly and Leah were leaving. Was far more disappointed when I watched the first few shows of this season! The replacements are awful. The panel feels stiff and forced now. I could NOT watch Molly Shannon one minute longer. She may be a lovely person, but she can not say a word without flailing her arms and hands around. Way too distracting for me. Erased it from my TiVo real quick!

  • Julio From Miami, Fl. | September 14, 2011 7:49 AMReply

I watched the first episode and couldn't believe how cold and fake the show was! No mention of their supposedly friends which they used to hang out with and spend time at each others home. It was a disgrace to so called friendships! I cannot watch a fake show!

I just discovered that you can register your complaint at www.cbs.com/daytime/the-talk/be-on-the-show and go to the bottom where it says, "feedback." You can register your disappointment with the release of Holly and Reah right on "The Talk" site, itself. Perhaps enough folks do this, they might bring them back. Shows have been saved by the fans before!

  • roberta h gibson | September 7, 2011 11:08 AMReply

This was an extremely bad move for CBS. Chemistry is everything for that type of show and that is exactly what the original five hosts had. It was magical to watch. I have never laughed so hard watching a daytime show. I have watched the two shows this week, Sept. 6 & 7th and was appalled by the "lack" of chemistry with the two new hosts. I will no longer be watching this show. I used to plan my day around this particular show, hadn't felt about a show like that in many, many years. As usual, the networks get something viewers like and they destroy it. And then they wonder why folks are paying for cable channels! CBS - LEARN SOMETHING! This is a bad decision that will cost you in loss of viewers.

  • Sharon Hopkins | September 7, 2011 9:46 AMReply

I have loved The Talked since it began!!! I will never watch it again even though I love Mrs O. I can't believe they would get ride of the two women who make the show. Julie only has a job because of her husband and because of her looks. Who wants to see Chris Jenner?? Not me!!!

I THINK LEAH AND HOLLY SHOUD GO TO NBC, IMMEDIATELY, AND GET THEIR OWN TALK SHOW AND ASK DEBI MAZAR FROM, ENTOURAGE TO BE ON IT, TOO. VERY SAVY, INTERESTING AND SMART. ALSO, MARIO CANTONE. HE IS SOOO FUNNY! NOW THAT WOULD BE GREAT AND DIVERSE GROUP FOR A DAY TIME TALK SHOW. AND HOW ABOUT MARGARET CHO! OKAY, CALL NBC NOW OR ABC, FOR THAT MATTER!! DO THAY HAVE A SHOW YET FOR THE ALL MY CHILDREN HOUR??

  • Brandi McDuff | September 7, 2011 6:09 AMReply

NO WONDER THEY CALL HOLLYWOOD, "HOLLYWEIRD"! IF IT IS NOT BROKEN DO NOT FIX IT! THE TALK WAS GREAT BEFORE LETTING HOLLY AND LEAH GO. THE 5 OF THEM WERE GREAT TOGETHER...WELL, EXCEPT SARA SEEMED VERY QUIET AND A BIT UNCOOPERATIVE. I COULD NOT GET OVER JULIE, TODAY, ACTING AS IF NOTHING WAS DIFFERENT! AND NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY LEAH AND HOLLY ARE NOT THERE. YES, WEIRD. I AM DONE WITH THE TALK! SOON TO BE CANCELLED, ANYWAY!!

  • anonymous | September 6, 2011 8:23 AMReply

yep, didn't take long for Julies husband to see she wasn't in the limelight and get rid of the real talent by letting leah and holly go. Better get them back or prepare to lose your following.

I really enjoy the Talk and think they are making a big mistake letting Peete and Remini go. I think the whole group was a good mix. From all of the comments I see, Remini and Peete were truly liked by the viewers. Bad move executives!

  • Babygirl | August 29, 2011 2:55 AMReply

The truth is that no one watches this show for that, whatever her name is, that is married to the boss. I taped this show everyday and whenever she talks, I fast forward, she is annoying and did not exude the love that Holly and Leah gave when you watch the show. They were so genuine on the show. This woman is so fake and cold. But I could have seen this coming after all she is the Boss's wife and common sense could tell you that she knew these ladies were making us see her for whom she really is. A boring fake evil person. I say everyone should boycut the show. Me and all my friends will never watch it again

  • LoriAnne | August 28, 2011 10:49 AMReply

This show was total magic. I love the combination of these smart insightful women. I did not like Julie Chen before this show. Now, I love her! Sharon is television gold. I love Sarah's different perspective on things. Holly is super smart, witty, and funny. Leah is sharp, genuine, and at the core a softy. What on earth happened? Considering Kris Jenner as a replacement is a complete joke. I hate hate the Kardashians. What are the plans for this show-to have Kris discuss details of her daughter's fake wedding? Sick! Just palin sick!

  • Rose | August 28, 2011 7:33 AMReply

Holly and Remini was the life of the show. They were real. They talk what people want to hear. This is messup. I will not be watching, this show will not stay on too long. People want something to laugh about in today society.

Omg! Leah and holly totally make the show! Dumb move! I DVR it everyday and cant wait to watch it when i get home! I will not be watching it without them! I started watching it because of Leah and I will now stop because of her! Without Leah where is the natural comedy? And Kris Jenner - really?? No talent!!! Boring !!!!! Change the name from the talk to the snore!

    what are you guys NUTS!
Leah is great. I watched the show cause she was on. What a break from the view, loud mouth Joy spitting out hate towards anyone who doesn't believe in what she does. and holly who I never realy knew, is great.

Completely agree with the masses that Holly is the show and Ms Remini is her Robyn. CBS gets it wrong again. A fan who needed the mid day laughter and conversation will shut the idiot box off and read.

Today's network channels unmistakingly continues in the wrong direction. More cable shows. Nothing is left on network TV but horrific news and struggling night shows. Where is TRUE TV talk and entertainment shows?? See you somewhere else soon Holly and Leah.

Holly, you are the best and most talented person for this job on The Talk. You're natural, beautiful, (but not conceited) and so SMART. I've been so impressed with you and I can't believe they didn't ask you back.
You will be greatly missed. I, like you, do not see color, Holly.
    I happen to be white.
You deserve to have your own talk show.
Best of luck and lots of love,
    Lynn :'(

  • KAKE | August 26, 2011 6:10 AMReply

There is a good mix amongst them. I started taping the shows not so much for the guests but for their daily TALK. Hadn't watched the View since they came on board. I hear Kris Jenner is a guest host. Oh please , does the media give that Kardashian clan too much publicity already. Now we have to see her daily or in intervals. Don't care to hear about her family or anything else she has to say. Can't believe the show can't find one of the substitutes with personality & not so high profile to balance out the table. I fear this is the beginning of the end.

  • Blogger | August 26, 2011 2:58 AMReply

WOW!!!! How can that be? Holly and Lemini brought realism to the show......The intergrity can't be sugarcoated. Julie Chen is not daytime talk material. Yea, she may have journalist credentials, so why don't she host the evening news or something? Holly and Leah, I hope that you are reading the posts here. WE LOVE YOU and I am not going to support the show for the Second Season.........RATINGS GO DOWN!!!!

  • Ivana | August 26, 2011 1:14 AMReply

I am willing to bet to avoid humiliation that hubby Les Moonves (of Julie Chen), who is head of CBS will give the show a great big budget to be able to bring in a big name(s). I was cheering for Two and a Half Men to succeed without Charlie Sheen and his comedy roast the same night as the season premier of THM but now I an routing for THM to fail!

  • gisela | August 19, 2011 1:28 AMReply

I started watching the talk from the very beginning. It is not the view since they do not deal with political or hot topics like the view. They dealt mainly with family issues, althought someimes they pushed the envelope a little bit especially in the discussions about sex. I have enjoyed every show and hope that the rumors that Leah and Holly are not coming back is not true. They both added something extra to the show and they will end up loosing a lot of their audience including me. Like the phrase goes "if its not broken it does not need fixing"

  • MICHELLE FROM WISCONSIN | August 18, 2011 3:24 AMReply

I loved Leah she was very funny She is my favorite on the show.Anyone would love to have her.So sad to see her go.

  • Monique | August 17, 2011 2:26 AMReply

Yeah, I've never watched this show EVER. It was a blatant "The View" rip off and since I don't watch that show anymore, I did not want to bother. If I were to have watched it, it would have been for Leah. I've loved her since she was on Who's the Boss! She's is an everyday chick and so cute! Holly's okay but after that John Mayer thing, she's lost points with me.

As for Sharon, gawd, that WOMAN! I saw her damn near eye rape a very uncomfortable looking Travis fimmel on her old talk show show and was put off forever by her. Sheesh!

  • Dankwa Brooks | August 16, 2011 10:48 AMReply

As I get to work insanely early, when I get home it’s just right when ‘The Talk’ comes on so I have watched it regularly or had it in the background regularly. Having said that, here is my breakdown on the hosts-

Julie Chen-Wooden. There’s a reason they call her the Chen-Bot
    Holly Robinson-Peete-Delightful and intelligent
Sharon Osbourne-Loud and obnoxious, but has been around forever and knows everybody on BOTH sides of the pond. THAT is her major appeal.
    Sarah Gilbert-Shy and mousy.
Leah Remini- Loud and obnoxious, mad ghetto, but every show needs one.

Having said those brief observations, I agree with Anonymous that Holly and Leah were the best things about the show. Julie added nothing, Sarah REALLY added nothing. As creator of the show she would be better as sideline producer ala Gellman on ‘Regis & Kelly’. Sharon is better as a guest, NOT a host. There have been times when Julie was off and Sharon stepped in as Moderator and she was bloody awful. Leah could never be Moderator, but she is a character and I think adds a lot of fun to the show.

I’ve been a fan of Holly’s since ’21 Jump Street’. Never watched ‘Mr. Cooper’ so I haven’t seen her since then until she turned up on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and WOW was she fantastic. She was a force to be reckoned with on that show and truly deserved to win. Brett Michaels got Trump’s sympathy vote. I wasn’t surprised to have her land this gig, but am surprised that of the many problems with the show she may have been singled out as one of them. I hope that maybe she has had other offers and they couldn’t or wouldn’t pay to keep her.

  • ahollyfan | August 16, 2011 10:17 AMReply

If indeed this is true, I may not be a loyal viewer in the future. It took a while to appreciate Leah but by the time the show ended, I was a fan. Holly is the show in my opinion. She has so much class and is the elegant part of the show. Her family stories and the things she did for autism were exceptional. I will reallyl miss them both and like I said before, I may not be able to tune in in the future.

  • kits | August 16, 2011 10:12 AMReply

Pulleezze! "Strong ratings puller" ??!!-don't believe CBS's spin. Ratings of 0.4 to 0.7 are not "strong" unless you happen to be married to the CEO Moonves (Julie Chen). The Talk is insipid, boring and when Chen gets up from the couch with her legs spread, it's gross. I see London, I see France... Bring back ATWT.

  • jade | August 16, 2011 10:00 AMReply

To be honest they all are predictable
for any topic that's brought up these would be their responses:
Julie would be zen or robotic
    Sara boring slow
    Sharon Crass
    Leah loud
    Holly oversharing or jokester

  • JMac | August 16, 2011 8:32 AMReply

Never watched the show but if it was supposed to be CBS's version of The View, I'm glad Holly is gone. She's too intelligent and classy to be associated with that mess.

  • brenda volious | August 16, 2011 8:20 AMReply

If those 2 ladies leave i will not watch the show. Remini is the hit of the show. She is the everyday woman and down to earth and i can't think of anyone that could replace her. If this happens the ratings will go down. All the women compliment each other . Bad mistake if this happens!

  • The Maillady | August 16, 2011 7:32 AMReply

This show was a HOMERUN for CBS. You don't mess with success, but some people aren't smart enough to see that. All that success goes to their head. IF they DO make it a permanent decision, I would like to see them p/u someone like Melissa Peterman (formerly Barbara Jean of the REBA show). That is one hysterically funny lady. She really is SO very funny not only on screen, but off screen in person as well. She is SUCH a delight, and so very talented, not to mention a local there in LA. Oh well, we'll see .....

  • keepingitreal | August 16, 2011 4:19 AMReply

Holly and Remini ahould have their own show. They were the ones who made this dull ass show! W/O them they are nothing.

  • Cacey | August 16, 2011 2:58 AMReply

I totally agree with Anon. There is absolutely no reason to watch the show if Holly and Leah have gotten the ax.

  • Hazel Bishop | August 16, 2011 2:52 AMReply

I have to re-comment .... This show works because of ALL the pieces not just because of one or two. I love the mix of personalities. I think each one brings a world view that is what make America great. No one wants to go to a party and have all of the people at that party be any ONE of these personalities. The group together represent all of us..... aspects of each of us. This cast needs to stay the same ...... it will turn into "the View" which I quit watching 3 years ago. It will have NO relevance in daytime TV.
In my first post I didn't mention the other cast members simply because this was about the loss of the two. I love every member of this group. I am 62 years old and was always the "cool" mom ..... and I am a Christian and really LOVE everything about this show. People being people who they really are not who they want you to think they are.
I hope this is not a STUNT to get us to respond because that would be a lie..... this show is about real ..... if you are lying to me ..... shame on whoever thought of that. Just get the ladies a contract they can sign and be grateful that you have a show that will outlast all of us.

  • MiddleMyatt | August 16, 2011 2:50 AMReply

Why? Who could consider Holly's bland personality offensive? Her entire career in entertainment has been as unremarkably mediocre as not to bring too much attention to herself. Holly is just, you know, Holly. I feel bad for her; this is unfortunate news. Rumor has it they're replacing her with a loaf of wheat bread.

  • Hazel Bishop | August 16, 2011 2:40 AMReply

Seriously..... this is ridiculous.... Holly is amazing on this show and you are crazy to get rid of her .... I love her. She adds so much to the REAL of the show. Not afraid to be authentic. Love her love her.
Leah can be loud and silly..... she can tend to take over any subject but she is fun. I love that she has a conservative view point and the willingness to share it.
I watched King of Queens the whole time it ran and we still watch re runs. I think she is an enormous talent..... if she is gone then she needs to have her OWN show again.
Bottom line I think all of the ladies bring a lot to the show. I love this show and will continue to watch it...... but you better wow me cuz I am going to miss these saucy ladies......... I think you all need to reconsider.

  • bella | August 16, 2011 2:11 AMReply

I love the show !! Leah and Holly are the show. I will not watch it anymore if they leave. I think that they are hysterical!! I was so glad to see a show where the women hosts are not so political ,not fighting with each other the entire time, and not pushing their own "VIEWS" down your throat. Its a good thing Julie Chen is married to the head of CBS, because she is the one who needs to go! Why do these networks keep screwing up shows!

"Pulleezze! “Strong ratings puller” ??!!-don’t believe CBS’s spin".

According to the trades, not CBS, the show pulled it's biggest ratings ever. Of course it's not doing Ellen numbers, but it's definitely holding it's own and the fact that about to go into its second season shows that someone is watching it.

  • Mecca | August 15, 2011 12:38 PMReply

    @Blaqbird

I agree w/ you Remini & Peete were the best ones on the show. I love how outspoken Remini was about every topic and I also liked seeing Holly Robinson on TV because I use to be a huge fan of "Hangin with Mr.Cooper" back in the day. And it was really refreshing to see her on TV again.

Hmm. I wonder who will replace the two. I am trying to think of washed up has been female celebs in Hollywood. None come to mind.

  • Anonymous | August 15, 2011 12:36 PMReply

Holly and Remini WERE the show! How odd... The Talk will be absolutely dull without their voices. They had fun, mommy / best girlfriend opinions. The show will have zero spunk without Holly and Remini. With the exception of Sharon, the remaining ladies are quite dry. The producers should reconsider.

Yikes! Remini and Peete were the only 2 that really voiced their true opinions on topics, maybe that's why? But it is pretty messed up. How much you want to bet that there will be no women of color replacing them?

Your Comment: I am heart broken that CBS let Holly and Leah go. Does anyone know the real reason why they were let go? Holly was the reason I always watched that show. Not only is she smart, classy, intelligent and beautiful, she was just down right hilarious and such a joy to watch. Well, I am totally done watching the Talk. Good Luck to both Holly and Leah.
Holly have you called Oprah lately?
