Idris Elba has already expressed his interest in directing, with a feature film project already being developed for him to helm some time in the next year, which would be his directorial debut. The BBC-commission film is said to be "a small tale about a young girl" which he's been working on for about a year, and hopes to begin shooting by the end of this year.
While we wait for that to come to fruition, you may be glad to know that the British actor will reportedly direct the music video for the first single from songstress Angie Stone's upcoming new album Rich Girl, which isn't due out until early next year, with the vocal appearances of Faith Evans and Ledisi expected.
The album's first single will likely be a track called I Can't Take It., which she recalls Idris Elba told her it reminded him of Amy Winehouse, who died last month, and which I assume was part of his motivation for wanting to direct the video for it.
No word on when we can expect to see Idris' director handy-work, though with the album due early next year, the video could drop within the next few months.
So, really, this would be his directorial debut, unless the above feature film gets rolling in front of cameras first.
Call him the renaissance man; he acts, produces, raps, DJs, *accidentally* posts half-naked pics of himself on Twitter, and now he'll try his hand at directing!
