Lionsgate 'Dreams'

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced the January 28 DVD release of Dreams, starring Angie Stone, members of the Gospel-singing family The Winans, and introducing American Idol's Syesha Mercado.

Directed by Joel Kapity, the film interweaves four powerful stories of inner city life as Chicago residents fight to overcome difficult circumstances.

Its synopsis reads:

Mia (Mercado) dreams of singing, Quentin (Marchello Lee) dreams of dancing, Paalo (Joseph Awinongya) wants to mend the relationship with his daughter and Alonzo (J-Son) hopes to reconnect with his family but the realities of abuse, failure from their broken pasts and a notorious criminal make the path to their dreams an uphill battle. Set in urban Chicago, these four stories are woven together to create an inspiring tale of the hard work it takes to achieve one’s dreams.

Tommy Ford (Martin, The Parkers), Terri J. Vaughn (Meet the Browns, Daddy's Little Girls), Mel Jackson (Soul Food, Living Single), Geoffrey Owens (The Cosby Show, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia), and Dennis "LA" White (Notorious) co-star.

I was thinking this film is very realistic. Really touching and make my heart beating with it.
The title dreams implied that it has four main roles. They are searching for their different ways and pursuing their own happiness and believes. The story about love, drug, violence and a broken family. We need take a time and watching it seriously. When the heroines are struggling for their dreams and lives, they hurt and despaired so many times. But as the quote in the trailer , dream is what we believe. With the background music of raps, I felt my eyes are warming and suddenly tears came down my face.

I covered/attended the Chicago screening/premiere in Nov. 2012--all of the film's stars were present. The content was a bit 'dark' for my tastes, but I got through it...
