Some quickie casting news...

First (via Twitch) Isaach de Bankole (an S&A favorite) has joined the cast of The Guard writer/director John Michael McDonagh's dark comedy titled Calvary.

Isaach joins Brendan Gleeson (who also starred in McDonagh's last effort, The Guard, which co-starred Don Cheadle).

The Sligo Ireland-set Calvary centers on a good priest (played by Gleeson) who is tormented by members of his parish.

No word on what role Isaach will play - I'm guessing one of the parish members.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in September.

Second, Anthony Mackie is said to be "in talks" to join the cast of Michael Bay's "low-budget" dark comedy set in the world of bodybuilding titled Pain And Gain.

The film already will star Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg as the film's tow leads.

The synopsis for the film, which is based on a Miami New Times article from 1999, reads as follows:

... will follow a pair of Florida bodybuilders who get caught up in an extortion ring and a kidnapping scheme that goes terribly wrong.

The script was penned by the pair who wrote the Captain America screenplay, and is being compared in tone to the Coen brothers' Fargo.

Mackie is in negotiations to play a character named Adrian Doorbal, described as "a big-hearted bodybuilder who works out with Wahlberg's character, Daniel Lugo. Doorbal has little to show for his hard work, leading him to get involved with Lugo's scheme."

So it looks like Mackie may be bulking up a bit for the part.

Production is expected to begin in the spring.

The John Michael McDonagh holds some promise. Ned Kelly was very funny and since he is the brother of the surprisingly hilarious In Bruges writer/director Martin McDonagh, I'd say humor runs in that family.

Sigh. Again, this is the what...fourth project that I auditioned for, casting loved me-but it was a C.Y.A. audition till they finalized Mackies deal. Guess in Hollywood, there can only be one.

Well, heres the thing. I have a friend who made a funny point. He said when your time comes & you blow up, kids will be cursing your name. LOL Thats how it goes. And of course, it isnt Anthony at all, know him & hes real cool. Its the insidiousness of casting for "ethnic" actors. That once theres one, theres only one. Look at Asian, Middle Eastern, etc. So you just keep plugging along to be that "overnight" success. :-D

Sorry to hear that Jug. That's why I moved into making my own content brother because Bull ish like that will never end. You probably nailed your audition too. More than likely he never even read the script. SMH.
