It Looks Like Morgan Jones (Played By Lennie James) Will Be Returning To 'The Walking Dead'

Well, in hindsight, maybe T-Dog's exit was to make way for what was to come; as we often joke around here, we just can't have more than 1 or 2 regular black characters on a hit mainstream TV series like The Walking Dead.

Yesterday, it was announced that Tyreese would be joining the cast this seaon, to be played by Chad Coleman.

This morning, thanks to a link from TVLine to TVOvermind, it's also being reported that Morgan Jones (remember him from the pilot episode in 2010, played by Lennie James) will indeed be returning to the series, later in the season.

In fact, it's being suggested that his late season appearance might be a lead-in to him becoming a cast regular in the following season (assuming there will be one).

You might recall that, in June, Lenni James revealed ia recent interview, that the producers of the show had been interested in bringing him back, but his schedule just hadn't allowed for that to happen.

“It remains a possibility I could return. The character I played is away for a long time, so it’s kind of up to them whether I stay away or if I come back. There have been a few back and forth conversations and they check up on me every now and then. I had a fantastic time working on the pilot with Andy Lincoln and especially Frank Darabont. He’s somebody that I’d directorially always wanted to work with and I’m glad I got the opportunity... There’s a possibility I might go back. It just depends on timing-wise if I’m free. At least one of the times they contacted me about it, I was busy doing something else.”

Yes, he's a busy actor. Most recently, he signed starred in the BBC drama series, Line Of Duty, and signed up to play a former heroin addict trying to stay clean and rebuild his life, in a gritty new Channel 4 (UK) 4-part drama series titled Run. He's also attached to co-star opposite Mark Strong in an AMC drama pilot titled Low Winter Sun, with Ernest Dickerson directing.

And there's more...

But there you have it. As I asked back in June, might we be seeing Lennie back as Morgan Jones during this season of The Walking Dead?

It looks like the answer is yes. When and how exactly, we don't know yet.

With him returning, Tyreese joining, and Michonne already on-board, we'll have 3 black co-stars on the series. Whoa! Let's hope that doesn't mean one of them will be killed off, in order to maintain the usual count.

Juli, Glenn is never in actual danger.

And we're more upset about the fact that rather than developing the male black characters, as they did with Glenn, they're just mute muscle until they need a redshirt death, then they are promptly replaced.

before i read this, i was guessing that morgan would be returning considering that episode 10 of season 3 is called 'home' and in the desc. of it, it says that rick is looking for a lost friend. that might be morgan o:

People need to stop complaining, about there being 4 black main characters. There's only a few characters in the show anyway. I wonder how many asians are angry because there's only one asian guy on the show? I love these actors and I'm glad their on the show. But everytime I hear black people complaining about black people, it gets a little annoying.

There would actually be 4 black characters on the show...Oscar the prisoner is still there and he is really Dexter from the comics so that would make a totally of whomping four black actors working on one drama

I often wondered what happened to Morgan and his little boy.

The reason I find this important is because all of those characters are strong. With IronE Singleton's character T-Dog, he was more like the team's lapdog. There was no major development with him and whatever was there died when Dale was a goner. I enjoy the graphic novels and the TV series as well. I understand and appreciate the creators for creating a new storyline and switching things up, but the thing that irked me was the lack of strong black characters and strong female characters.
