Not quite that triple witching hour, for all you stock market traders out there who are also readers.
Expectations are even higher for the upcoming new season 3 of FX's series American Horror Story (which will be titled American Horror Story: Coven) thanks in part to the additions of Angela Bassett and Gabourey Sidibe to the cast.
Also veteran stage star Patti LuPone has hopped along for the ride from series creator Shawn Ryan.
The actresses join a cast that already includes Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy and Lily Rabe.
Although I never quite got into the series (not because I didn't like it. There's just so much else competing for my attention), with the addition of Sidibe and Bassett, I plan to catch up before the new season arrives on October 9 at 10 PM ET/PT on FX.
It's been over 300 years since the Salem witch trials. Those who remain are almost extinct and in danger again. A school has opened in New Orleans to teach protection to the young. The long-absent Supreme arrives to also protect the new students and their secrets. The themes include witches, witch hunts, incest, minorities, slavery, mothers and daughters, and witchcraft versus voodoo. This season will be set in modern day and the 1830s.
The last time Bassett appeared as a series regular on any TV show was during the final season (2008–2009) of the once hit medical drama ER on NBC.
Sidibe was most recently a regular on Showtime's The Big C.
Ahead of the broadcast premiere of Coven, FX has released a teaser poster, which is embedded below, and which may or may not delight fans, who probably have more insight into its meaning than I do. So feel free to dissect:
