Well, it's not the Marvin Gaye project he's been trying to make for years now, but Jesse L. Martin is returning to NBC's musical drama series Smash, in a recurring role as Scott Welker, an Artistic Director of a theater company, who has some history with characters on the show, and may even get involved with Debra Messing’s character Julia.

The Law & Order alum, and one of the original cast members of the stage musical Rent, joins other Smash season 2 multi-episode stars like Jennifer Hudson and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Congrats Mr Martin, who last appeared on the big screen with Queen Latifah in Joyful Noise.

Man, besides "Joyful Noise" where has he been? This entire week has seen the resurgence of some of my favorite actors/actresses.
