He just keeps cranking them out, doesn't he? The man can't be stopped! This is the 3rd movie he's shooting this year alone; the other 2: Good Deeds and I, Alex Cross - both he stars in. I think he also has a new play coming as well.

According to a Variety exclusive, Tyler Perry has tagged Jurnee Smollett to star in what will be his 13th collaboration with Lionsgate, an adaptation of his play The Marriage Counselor.

Smollett will play Judith, "a newlywed marriage counselor who gives great relationship advice but finds it difficult to address issues within her own marriage."

No other cast has been announced yet, but production is scheduled to begin next week in Atlanta, GA.

Oh and TP will make her character arc complex? No disrespect but....WHAT?! LOL

    One more time...

@Melanie I actually thought her and Michael B. Jordan were two of the standouts on FNL. No matter the material, she’s a natural in front of the camera IMO.

Well, I'm not a huge T.P fan but I am glad he is giving our folks some work!

Jurnee is a pretty good actress I hope she make a name 4 herself again!

It's amazing how Tyler has all these talented women star in his films, but their success does nothing for their career. He can't create a vehicle that actually showcases an actor's talent.

Lemme guess the plot. A professional black woman can't get her act together, but a working class light skinned-ed black man gets her off her high horse and gets her acting like a natural woman.

Gotta piggyback off Melanie with all this "a girl's gotta eat" nonsense. None of these actors/actresses were necessarily standing in line at the soup kitchen before TP came along. It's completely their choice to act in his movies/tv shows or do something else.

Jurnee is pretty but I've never liked her acting. She's just wallpaper. This movie is a step up for her - the only way she'd be a lead in a flick many people will watch.

Isn't this the same plot as the horrible Mandy Moore comedy that came out last year?? Knowing TP this will probably be comedy with a side of trauma. Meh, I'll pass even if it's Jurnee.

I love how production is scheduled to begin next week yet they haven't even named the rest of the cast.

As for people saying this is a step down....I would disagree if it wasn't for Tyler's overthetop melodramatic stereotypical ways of presenting black peeps.

THe idea seems to have such potential but I know he will turn it upside down on its sad :(

It's a step up people. I saw her on Friday Night Lights on NBC. BORING. At least TP will make her character arc complex. And I doubt she will be cast against a light-skinned actor.

These actresses enjoy working so she isn't asking you to feel sorry for her.She was "eating" before TP came along, as if any of you care.

A huge step down from Kasi Lemmons and Denzel Washington, but a girl's gotta eat.

You know what? I actually wanna see this. Jurnee has always been a great actress, and I would love to see her as a lead. I can't wait to see who else has been cast. My initial thought was that she's too young--I thought the same when I saw the play version. In the play the lead actress Tamar Davis seemed too young as well, and she was a few years older then, than Jurnee is now. But hey, it's Tyler Perry's world.

Good for her and for Tyler Perry. Instead of taking another supporting or "good friend" role in a TV show or movie, Smollett opted for a lead role where she might even have more input about her character. She's smart to work with everyone - Tyler Perry, Bill Cosby, and Denzel Washington. I'm looking forward to seeing her in the movie.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I thought she would certainly escape the grasps of Tyler Perry!!!! But, like everybody else has said, a girl's gotta eat….DAMN!!

  • misha | October 20, 2011 11:17 AMReply

Hmm, I'm a fan of Jurnee but isn't she a little too young to be playing a marriage counselor?

Anyhow, it's a little disappointing to see her doing a TP movie. Jurnee should be one of the "it" girls...she has tons of charisma and screen presence IMO. But I guess this is another case of Tyler being the only one who called, as Taraji bluntly stated.

I guess her willingness to stoop to such a thing speaks more to the dearth of quality work out there for Black actresses, huh? A girl's gotta eat!
