Kevin Clash

Just when you thought it was all over, the whole la scandale de Kevin Clash has now raised its ugly head again.

When we last heard about the whole affair, Kevin Clash's accuser, who has been identified as Sheldon Stephens, a 24 year old model with a previous criminal recordrecanted his story that he had been involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with Clash when he was a minor.

He released a statement saying that both of them had indeed been involved in a relationship, but that it happened when they were both adults, though of course, Clash is more than twice the age of Stephens.

But now, once again, there's been a turn of events.

Stephens has now, in effect, recanted his recant, and now says that he told the truth the first time, and that he was pressured by lawyers to deny his original accusation in exchange for a $125,000 payment that was arranged through the law firm of Andreozzi and Associates.

In fact, Stephens now has a new lawyer, and says that he will voluntarily give up the entire financial settlement claiming that he was pressured, under extreme duress, into signing the orginal statement denying the true nature of their relationship.

However this eventually winds up, it's pretty certain now that Clash will not be returning to Sesame Street in any way. Too much scandal. That chapter of his life is over.

There is now a second accuser.

  • Orville | November 20, 2012 2:58 PMReply

Well that's a wrap for Kevin Clash, I think he made a huge mistake paying off the first accuser.
By paying off the first accuser Clash looks guilty $125,000 is A LOT of money! Why did Kevin Clash decide to pay the guy off it was a huge mistake on his part. Now a second guy wants money from Clash and of course Sesame Street had to let him go. Sesame Street has a reputation to maintain and Kevin Clash was thinking with his penis and not his head when he sent emails to Stephens from his Sesame Street account. Poor guy the grifters are coming out of the woodwork.

@Orville-So you're saying Mr Clash's only mistake was using his Sesame Street email account? Puhlease! He was thinking with his penis before that and now he's paying for it.

The defense of this man is misplaced. He just resigned because ANOTHER man has come forward--->

Just heard about #2 on MSNBC. Would make sense why Clashed resigned rather than just take a break and return later.

I don't believe anything this guy says. It's always been cases like this where the accuser recants the recant and almost ALL the time it backfires on him/her. They could look at a number of things now to turn the tables on him. This is not going to be pretty, I can guarantee it.

  • D.A. | November 20, 2012 11:08 AM

And isn't it so convenient that he says 16, when in NY age of consent is 17. He'd better cover his bases this time becuase they are going togo over his testimony with a fine-toothed comb.

  • donnadara | November 20, 2012 10:41 AMReply

Did you look at this guy's rap sheet? Sheldon Stephens looks like a hustler who sells his "companionship" to older men. Is there any evidence that he even knew Kevin Clash when he was 16? And yes, in many states that is the age of consent. There is a big difference between a pedophile and someone who is attracted to a teen who looks and talks like an adult. Stop it.

  • turner | November 20, 2012 11:06 AM

Problem is this dude probably looked like he was 13 or 14 when he was 16...eeewwww! Mr Clash should have taken notice of Pee Wee Herman's career demise in children's entertainment before he messed around with that guy.

Cui bono... who benefits from all this?

  • lauren | November 19, 2012 11:16 PMReply

SMDH...What's really troubling is the possible motivation for Mr. Clash seeking a career that catered to children in the first place. I pray there are no more young accusers in the wings.

  • lauren | November 20, 2012 10:50 AM

@HAQ-I'm not suggesting that every puppeteer is a pedophile nor that every football coach is like Jerry Sandusky... but sadly, too often men who like to be around children find a career that fits.

  • Haq | November 20, 2012 10:40 AM

People are such slaves to the media. I guess that means Jim Henson is also a pedophile cause he's created every muppet in the last 40+ years. So stupid. The pedophiles are those who stay away from this kind of shit and never get caught. This dude was gay from a child that's evident when you watch his story. You see him as a young man. NYC as a young man. Of course he was free to have gay sexual relationships and everyone he works with already knew this. This accuser is now tainted and we shouldn't believe a word he says. Now let the man go back to work.

  • sergio | November 20, 2012 9:16 AM

So I guess we'll have to assume that you have sex with underage teens since you're SO defensive about it. Well you are aren't you?

  • Huffy | November 20, 2012 8:08 AM

Are you fucking serious? The accuser is saying he had an affair when he was 16, which is legal age in most countries (and states for that matter). There's a massive diffrence between someone who sleeps with a underage but sexually mature boy and someone who is attracted to prepubescent children (the only kids who are going to be watching Seasame Street). Using this (pretty shifty) accusation to make far-fetched insinuations about the man is silly. He may be a creep but don't call him a pedophile when there's zero evidence to suggest that that he's aroused by prepubescent boys.
