Initially announced about 3 weeks ago... an upcoming film titled Still I Rise (unrelated to the Maya Angelou poem of the same name), which will star Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal as two frustrated mothers who team up to transform an inner-city public school in Pittsburgh, PA.

We learned earlier this week that Rosie Perez and Fringe and The Wire star Lance Reddick have both joined the cast of the Walden Media/20th Century Fox film.

Perez will reportedly play the tough head of the school board, while Reddick will play Viola Davis' husband, who also happens to be a teacher.

Daniel Barnz (Beastly) is set to direct. Principal photography is currently underway.

Sounds good. I hope they don't make it a "great white savior" movie. I love Viola Davis, but I could not stomach The Help.
