Great news! The new Lennie James BBC2 police drama series, titled Line Of Duty, is heading to USA shores, and a lot sooner than I expected.
The NY Times reports that the series will be available on Hulu, starting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 21.
UK audiences already watched the 5-episode season earlier this year, which apparently did well enough that the BBC ordered a second season.
Described as a hard-hitting, cat-and-mouse thriller which takes a probing look into modern policing, with James starring as a charismatic but controversial copper, the full synopsis for Line Of Duty reads:
Following one multi-stranded investigation over five hours, Line Of Duty sees Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) transferred to AC-12, a fictional anti-corruption unit, after a mistaken shooting during a counter-terrorist operation. Alongside Detective Constable Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), they are assigned to lead an investigation into the alleged corruption by a popular and successful officer, Detective Chief Inspector Tony Tate (Lennie James). While Tate cleverly manipulates his unit's figures, DS Arnott questions whether Tate's being made a scapegoat for a culture of institutionalised spin, or is guilty of darker corruption?
Creator of the show Jed Mercurio had this to add regarding James' role and the series' plot:
"Lennie James is electric as DCI Tony Tate, a complex and elusive anti-hero, and a formidable antagonist for two of the most exciting young talents in British TV – Martin Compston and Vicky McClure – who play the relentless anti-corruption officers on his trail."
That's right, you read that correctly - antagonist - a formidable one too! But expect some twists and turns, as I'm sure all isn't exactly as you think.
Line Of Duty official debuted on BBC2, on June 26, at 9pm.
As I said back then, I thought maybe it'll eventually be picked up by BBC America, and those of us here in the USA will get a chance to see it. It looks like Hulu has that exclusive for now... at least, the online exclusive. Although, if you're like me, and you have one of those large screen, LED, internet-ready TV's, you can watch it right on television, instead of your laptop screen.
So look for Line Of Duty on Hulu tomorrow.

There are some good dramas coming from the UK but their seasons are too short, I'll definitely watch this series on HULU. I remember Lennie James from Columbiana.

LENNIE JAMES is a brilliant actor and I'm happy that he gets to play the learn antagonist in a show. I first became a fan of his when he was on the CBS TV show JERICHO and he played a similar mysterious character. He was one of the reasons unstuck with the show throughout its entire shaky run. (The show was cancelled, but fan support brought it back for seven episodes after whichâit was cancelled again. LOL. They did James' character proper though) Will definitely check out this show....eventually. The brits know how to make quality drama.
