So says Vulture.. although there's no information on what roles he's being offered.

Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson, and Stanley Tucci are the latest group of actors to be offered parts in the heavily secretive production,

As I said last week, I still haven't read the books, so I'm not at all equipped to discuss content or characters, and thus can't even begin to speculate in what capacity Kravitz could be involved. Maybe those of you who are familiar with the work can enlighten those of us who aren't.

Last we reported on this, the characters named Thresh and Rue, also known as Tributes, have been cast, and both are played by relative newcomers, Dayo Okeniyi, and Amandla Stenberg.

I loved the books, and have been on top of the casting. Giving Kravitz a long deep thought of whom he might fit, my guess is going to be either guess he's approached for Caesar Flickerman or Claudius Templesmith.

I read the entire series and loved them. I will second the notion of reading YA books, there are some that are very good. Much of the Hunger Games is so adult I actually forget that it's supposed to be for kids.
I don't have a clue who they have in mind for Lenny, but there are plenty of roles to go around in this movie. I hadn't thought of the race of any of the characters, really. I can say that Jennifer Lawrence is not at all what I pictured for Katniss.

Folks think I just talk to talk. Speaking of lazy casting, this just came over the wire. Good for Anthony, but VERY telling about casting actually being "how can we make our job easy, who is hot, get THEM!" Same people day in, day out...

    from Variety:

EXCLUSIVE: Two years after his breakout turn in "The Hurt Locker," Anthony Mackie's reaping fresh rewards with a pair of high-profile projects. He's received an offer to star opposite Brad Pitt in Par's "World War Z," and is being eyed for a role in WB's "Gangster Squad" alongside Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin.

Mackie's reps had no comment, nor did Paramount.

While his "Hurt Locker" co-star Jeremy Renner ultimately won the key lead role in "The Bourne Legacy," Mackie also screentested for the gig, showcasing his crossover appeal.

Mackie is currently filming Fox's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," and reflects the actor's efforts to balance commercial pics with indie fare such as "Hurt Locker," "Night Catches Us" and the silent film "Bolden!"

"World War Z" is based on the tome by Max Brooks and has Marc Forster onboard to direct. Story is set 10 years after a global zombie epidemic and is an oral history told from various perspectives. David Ellison's Skydance Prods.is financing and producing the big-budget pic.

"Gangster Squad" will be directed by Ruben Fleischer with Dan Lin producing. Period crime pic is based on the Los Angeles Times' seven-part series "Tales From the Gangster Squad."

Mackie was last seen in Universal's "Adjustment Bureau" and next stars alongside Hugh Jackman in DreamWorks' "Real Steel." He's also wrapped the Summit thriller "Man on a Ledge" with Sam Worthington and the Channing Tatum-led high school reunion indie "Ten Year."

He is repped by UTA and Inspire Entertainment.

I have never understood the hype over Lenny as a musician, really don't get how his bland screen presence warrants these plum roles.

*sigh* really, the dude that was a black hole in PRECIOUS & couldn't play himself on ENTOURAGE?! I've said it before & I'll say it again, you wonder why "our" movies thin out & die after time, it's because of that right there. If they say "90% of a movie is casting" well then the talent pool being about as a big as a Miata, it makes sense. Granted, HUNGER GAMES is not by any stretch a "black film" but the more you see someone the more they work, plain & simple. So the more you see Common & Lenny Kravitz in a movie, cats like Harry Lennix don't get work.

Kravitz my foot...and Lee Daniels wanted him to play Andrew Young..C'mon Son!? :-(

Okay...I'm calm now..returning to nominal status LOL

I read the books and LOVED them. Don't be afraid of reading "young adult novels! There's a lot of great literature written for this age group not so secretly read by adults.

I am scratching my head as to which role Kravitz will play in the first movie. There are no adult roles that I recall that are clearly written for a black man, at least not until the third book.

Perhaps, they're going to have him play a role that I imagined as white to make up for everybody being upset with Jennifer Lawrence being cast as a character described as having olive skin, dark, straight hair and grey eyes.

I am happy with the actors being cast as Thresh and Rue, although I did imagine her darker. Without giving the plot away, I can tell you that black folks aren't going to be happy with how the movie ends. If it opens while I'm in the States I'm going to make sure to see it in a suburban theater.
