Listen To Great Interview w/ Whitney Houston & Producer Debra Martin Chase On The "Sparkle" Remake

Last November, a group of media outlets apparently spent an entire day on the Sparkle set, hald of which was reserved for interviews with the cast and crew, including Whitney Houston and producer Debra Martin Chase.

Shadow And Act wasn't invited, so I don't have anything to report first-hand. I instead have to rely on the work done by those who were present for that glorious day; so you can thank the folks at Collider for the below audio clip which I think is (and will be) Whitney Houston's most revealing interview about the film (given her recent death). She's obviously not going to be doing any press junkets for the film when it's released later this summer, which dramatically raises the significance of this particular interview.

It's a pretty good interview, as both she and producer Debra Martin Chase answer questions from several press reps who were present, and the questions are varied and at times probing; and, thankfully, both Houston and Chase give lengthy thoughtful answers. They don't skimp at all, and I think you'll all appreciate that as much as I did. 

They both talk about why they chose to remake this particular film, details on how the project all came about, Aaliyah's initial involvement prior to her death, what audiences can expect, comparisons to the original film, compromises they had to make, battles with the studio backing it, the film's rating (Chase declares that despite the themes, the plan has always been to make a family film and so it'll be rated PG13), and much more. Whitney even breaks down a bit when she talks about her daughter becoming a woman herself.

It's worthwhile stuff that you're not going to get again for obvious reasons, so I encourage you to listen to it. Several questions I had about the upcoming film are answered in this.

    i think this is going to be a great film sad whitney wont be around but i feel god will have be working with you to continue on with an amazing outcome good luck prayers all round

    Great interview! T4P! Too bad she won't be around to see the hard work that she put into the film (as she was the exec producer, on the soundtrack and in the film...sighs) but I know she shall be there in spirit.
