Smith's illustrious career includes appearances in popular films from the past like Do The Right Thing and Malcolm X to recent indie fare projects Moozlum, Better Mus' Come and Cornerstore.
He received an Obie Award for his portrayal of Black Panther Party co-founder Huey P. Newton in his 1996 one-man play A Huey P. Newton Story. In 2001, it was made into a made-for-tv film directed by Spike Lee.
